Thank you #Ireland team for setting a moral example with your protest against #Israel last Sunday.
I think Israel should follow suit and also wear black armbands for the return match this Sunday, in remembrance of all the victims of Irish violence down the years. It is the correct and moral thing to do in a football match.
All our players should remember:
• More than 700 innocent civilians murdered in the Irish War of Independence
• 919 civilians murdered in political violence in Ireland around the same time
• 371 civilians murdered in the Irish Civil War
• 25+ indigenous Luba people murdered by Irish forces in Congo in 1960 — a #genocide by anyone's standards
Ireland's conflicts matter deeply to Israelis — they are more important than all the other problems we have to deal with at home, and Israel's footballers are there to remember the innocent victims on all sides. We definitely know what we're on about.
