🚨Zinedine Zidane on Jorge Jesus’ treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo with Portugal: 🎙️ Reporter: “Zinedine, what do you make of the way Jorge Jesus has handled Cristiano Ronaldo and everything that has happened with Portugal?” 🗣️ Zinedine Zidane: “I wouldn’t do that to Kylian Mbappé, and I wouldn’t do it to any France player if that’s what you want to know. “I find it extremely disrespectful that a player of Cristiano’s pedigree can be treated this way and, in less than 24 hours, someone else is being announced with his number. “You can make football decisions. You can leave Cristiano on the bench. You can decide he doesn’t start a particular match. That is the coach’s right. “But there is a difference between making a football decision and making a player feel disposable. “And what makes it worse is that there was an agreement reached privately, then something different was said publicly. “If you tell Cristiano one thing behind closed doors and then present another version outside, of course he is going to feel betrayed. “Jorge Jesus is the coach, but Cristiano Ronaldo is not just another player walking into the Portugal dressing room. “This is a man who carried that shirt for more than two decades. He made Portugal believe they could compete with anyone. “You don’t erase that because a new coach arrives. “And you certainly don’t erase it overnight by handing his number to someone else and acting as if nothing happened. “Portugal can move forward. They should move forward. Every national team eventually has to prepare for the future. “But preparing for the future does not require disrespecting the past. “If Jorge wanted to move away from Cristiano, he could have done it with dignity. He could have spoken honestly, explained his football reasons and protected the relationship. “Instead, now everyone is talking about the conflict rather than Portugal’s football. “And that is the part I don’t understand. You had Cristiano Ronaldo in your dressing room. The least you owe a player like that is honesty, respect and dignity. “Portugal may find another No. 7. “But they will never find another Cristiano Ronaldo.”

🚨 Joao Felix on Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction to Portugal beating Denmark 4-2: “Cristiano called me after the game. I answered expecting him to say congratulations. Instead he said, ‘Three.’ I said, ‘What?’ ‘Three games in a row.’ I started laughing. He said, ‘Don’t laugh. I’m keeping count.’ That’s Cristiano. People probably imagine that after everything that happened this week, he wouldn’t even watch the game. He watched everything. He asked me about Vitinha’s header. ‘Since when does Vitinha score headers?’ I said, ‘Apparently since you left.’ There was silence. I immediately thought, ‘Maybe that wasn’t the best joke.’ Then he started laughing. ‘Good. Tell him I expect another one next game.’ That told me everything. Whatever happened this week hurt him enough to leave the camp. I don’t know every conversation that happened, and I’m not going to pretend I do. But I know something else. Cristiano leaving Portugal and Cristiano wanting Portugal to lose are two completely different things. I’ve seen him with this shirt. When Portugal score, he celebrates. When Portugal concede, he’s angry. When somebody misses a chance, somehow Cristiano looks more frustrated than the person who missed it. You don’t spend more than twenty years caring about something and switch it off because you’re angry with somebody inside the building. Tonight he wasn’t there. But Portugal scored four and somewhere Cristiano was still Cristiano. He asked who played well. He talked about Bruno. He laughed about Vitinha. Then he came back to me. ‘Joao, seriously. You’re playing well. Keep going.’ I said, ‘I will.’ He said, ‘No, no. I mean keep ALL of it.’ I knew where this was going. ‘Cristiano…’ He said, ‘Three games, three goals. Very nice. But when international break finishes, you’re coming back to Al Nassr.’ I started laughing. He continued: ‘Don’t come back here and suddenly remember you’re a midfielder.’ I said, ‘So this whole phone call wasn’t about Portugal?’ He said, ‘Of course it was about Portugal. Portugal needed your goals tonight.’ Then he paused. ‘Next week, I need them.’ That’s probably the part people don’t understand about Cristiano. You can disagree with people. You can feel disappointed. You can even reach a point where you pack your things and leave. But the badge doesn’t become your enemy because you had a problem with the people wearing suits around it. Portugal won 4-2 without Cristiano Ronaldo tonight. And Cristiano Ronaldo was happy Portugal won 4-2 without Cristiano Ronaldo. Maybe some people expected bitterness. I didn’t. I’ve played with him long enough to know the difference between Cristiano being hurt and Cristiano stopping caring. The first one can happen. I’m not sure the second one knows how.”

🚨Diogo Costa reveals Bruno Fernandes’ message to the Portugal squad before their game against Denmark: 🗣️ Diogo Costa: “Bruno brought everyone together in the dressing room before we went out and said, ‘Tonight isn’t just about 90 minutes of football.’ “He looked around and said, ‘Cristiano may not be with us tonight, but what he represents is still in this dressing room.’ “‘We all know what he has given to this country. We know the sacrifices he made, the pressure he carried and the countless times he fought for this badge.’ “Then he told us, ‘So don’t go out there trying to prove that Portugal can live without Cristiano.’ “‘Go out there and show him that everything he built is in safe hands.’ “‘Play for the shirt. Fight for every ball. Cover for the man next to you. And remember that wearing this badge means something.’ “Then Bruno said something that really stayed with me. “‘If Cristiano is watching us tonight, I want him to see the same hunger he had every time he stepped onto this pitch for Portugal.’ “When he finished, the dressing room was completely quiet. “Nobody needed to add anything. “We looked at each other and understood the message. We had to go out there and make Cristiano proud.”

🚨Luis Nani on the controversy between Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo: 🗣️ Luis Nani: “I spoke to Cristiano after everything happened, and I asked him one question: ‘Brother, are you really leaving Portugal like this?’ “He didn’t answer immediately. “He just said, ‘Nani, you know me. I can accept being left out. I can accept criticism. What I cannot accept is feeling like everything I’ve given Portugal suddenly means nothing.’ “That sentence stayed with me. “Because I know Cristiano. I’ve shared a dressing room with him since we were young. I know how competitive he is. If the coach tells him, ‘Cristiano, you’re not playing tonight because I have another tactical plan,’ he might be angry, but he’ll understand. “But if you make him feel unwanted, that’s different. “I reminded him of Euro 2016. I reminded him of all the times we travelled together, the nights we suffered, the games where Portugal needed one moment and he gave it to us. “He just said, ‘Nani, I never asked Portugal to play me because of what I did before. I only wanted them to respect what I can still give.’ “And honestly, that broke something in me. “Because that’s the Cristiano I know. “He doesn’t want a favour. “He doesn’t want people to put him on the pitch because his name is Ronaldo. “He wants to know that when Portugal calls him, they still believe he can contribute. “I told him, ‘Maybe Jorge is trying to build the next Portugal. Maybe he wants the younger players to take responsibility.’ “He said, ‘Then let them. I will never stop them. But don’t build the future by disrespecting the past.’ “That was when I realised this wasn’t really about one game or one benching. “It was about communication. “You can tell Cristiano, ‘Your role has changed.’ “You can tell him, ‘You’re not going to play every match.’ “You can even tell him, ‘There are games where we need younger legs.’ “But you have to look him in the eyes and tell him the truth. “Because Cristiano can handle the truth. “I remember when we were young, we used to argue about everything. Football, training, who was better, who should take the free-kick. [laughs] “But even then, I knew one thing about him. “He would rather hear something painful from a friend than something comfortable from somebody who doesn’t mean it. “So when I saw him leave the Portugal camp, I didn’t immediately ask, ‘What did Cristiano do?’ “I asked, ‘What happened between two people who should have been able to solve this inside the dressing room?’ “Because this isn’t just a player and a coach anymore. “This is Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal. “And after everything he has given that shirt, if this really is the beginning of the end, then I hope they find a way to end it with respect. “Cristiano doesn’t need Portugal to protect his legacy. Portugal needs to remember that it was privileged to have Cristiano Ronaldo protecting its shirt for more than two decades.”

🚨 Pepe on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Portugal camp: “When I retired, Cristiano wrote something about me that I will never forget. He said, ‘We won everything there was to win on the pitch, but the biggest achievement is our friendship.’ People probably read it and thought it was just a beautiful retirement message. I knew exactly what he meant. I have known Cristiano long enough to remember when neither of us had anything. Then Madrid came, Champions Leagues came, Portugal came, Euro 2016 came. I have seen him happy. I have seen him furious. I have seen him injured and still wanting to play. So when somebody tells me Cristiano Ronaldo woke up at 41 years old and decided, ‘Today I will destroy everything I spent more than twenty years building with Portugal because I sat on the bench,’ forgive me if I don’t believe the story is that simple. Cristiano can be difficult. So was I. But stupid? No. He knows what Portugal means to his legacy. That’s why this hurts me. Because since I stopped playing, I watch Portugal differently. I see things from outside now. And too often since Fernando Santos left, it feels like we’re managing situations after they’ve already become problems instead of making sure they never become problems. We saw confusion around the team at the World Cup. Now our captain leaves a camp and says one day he will tell the Portuguese people ‘the truth.’ How do we even arrive there? I remember Cristiano once telling me after a difficult Portugal game, ‘Pepe, people think because I complain, I don’t respect decisions.’ I said, ‘Brother, sometimes you complain too much.’ He laughed. Then he said, ‘But tell me the truth first. After that, I can accept anything.’ That’s Cristiano. If you tell him he’s starting, he’ll prepare to start. If you tell him he’s on the bench, he’ll be angry perhaps, but he’ll prepare for the bench. What you cannot do with somebody like him is make him believe one thing and then make him discover another. I don’t know everything that was said in those rooms. Cristiano will speak when he wants to speak. But I know my friend. And when a relationship between Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo reaches the point where he packs his things, leaves camp and says, ‘One day I’ll tell you the truth,’ I don’t only ask what Cristiano did. I ask how Portugal allowed it to reach that point. Twenty-three years. More than 200 matches. He stayed when we lost. He stayed when we changed coaches. He stayed when people said he was finished. He stayed when younger players began taking his place. At some point, somebody also has to stand by him. Maybe Cristiano’s time with Portugal was always going to end soon. But after everything he gave us, Portugal should have been capable of giving him a better ending than this. That’s not me defending Cristiano Ronaldo the footballer. That’s me standing beside my friend. He did it for me enough times.”

🚨 THEY CAN CONTROL THE BROADCAST, BUT THEY CAN'T DELETE THE FOOTAGE. Look at this clear contact in super slow-mo. Egypt was completely robbed of a stone-wall penalty, and the French official didn't even bother to check the VAR monitor. Instead, he immediately pulled out cards to silence and intimidate the players for protesting. Let’s be entirely honest: if this exact challenge happened in the other box, the referee would have rushed to the screen to check it twice from three different angles.

🚨 JUST IN: Gerard Piqué says Chelsea coming back from 2–0 down with 10 men to eliminate Barcelona in the 2012 UCL semifinal is one of the TOP two GREATEST COMEBACKS he has ever witnessed, admitting he has “never seen mentality like that before.” That Chelsea comeback against us in 2012 is honestly one of the two greatest comebacks I’ve ever witnessed in football. And I say that as someone who was on the pitch suffering through it." "We were 2–0 up at Camp Nou, Chelsea were down to ten men after the red card, and the whole stadium already felt sure Barcelona were going through. Normally in football, that situation is over." "But mentally, they were unbelievable. I remember looking across and seeing players throwing themselves into tackles, blocking shots with everything, fighting for every second like their lives depended on it." "What shocked me most was that they never panicked. Most teams in that atmosphere against Barcelona would completely collapse. Chelsea somehow became calmer after going down to ten men." "The goal before halftime changed everything psychologically. Suddenly, even with all the possession we had, you could feel Chelsea growing stronger mentally while frustration started entering our team." "And then Torres scoring at the end… honestly, I’ve never heard the Camp Nou go that silent. It felt impossible that we were out after everything that happened in the game." "People always talk about tactics in football, but that night was about mentality. Pure mentality. I still haven’t seen many teams react to adversity the way Chelsea did in that semifinal." "You can dislike their style, you can argue about luck, but mentally that Chelsea team was one of the strongest teams I’ve ever faced."
