Right wingers are confusing ethnic and cultural nationhood with civic nationhood. In many countries, like China, nationality is tied to ancestral identity. you can be ethnically Chinese without holding Chinese citizenship, or hold citizenship without being considered truly Chinese by society.
America doesn't work that way. The United States was deliberately constructed as a creedal nation. A republic bound by shared political values, the rule of law, and a common civic compact, rather than shared ancestry. There is no biological or ethnic baseline required to be American. If you are a citizen of the United States, you are an American, fully and completely. That’s the entire point of being proud to be an American is that it isn't locked behind an unachievable bloodline or the genetic lottery of where your ancestors were born. It’s a shared creed, and anyone who commits to it belongs here.
It’s ironic to hear the same people who preach meritocracy and constantly attack DEI suddenly turn around and demand an unearned, hereditary status. Yall claim everything should be based on personal achievement, yet you want exclusive ownership over the title of "American" based purely on the geographical coordinates where your parents fornicated. You can't champion individual merit on one hand, and then rely on the genetic lottery to claim you're more American than someone who actually worked, studied, and swore an oath to earn their citizenship.
