The Boyle monument, designed by Roger Leverett and sculpted by Edward Tingham was completed in 1633 and initially erected on the east side of the choir. Shortly afterwards, the liturgy was changed and required worshippers to kneel when receiving communion. 🧵 1/3

The #NorthMayo sculpture trail is indeed amazing! Depicted is the sculpture “Thin Places” created in 2002 under the direction of the American architect and artist Travis Price with his students at Poll na Seantoinne, a blowhole in the townland of Gladree.

I've watched the first landing on the moon live on TV on 20 July 1969. I have taken now the opportunity to let at least my name be flown around the moon during the coming Artemis II mission. Earliest launch date is 6 February 2026.
1.5 million names are flying around the Moon on Artemis II. Is yours one of them? It's not too late to add your name to the mission—and it's absolutely free: go.nasa.gov/artemisnames

Ancient texts from Plato's Symposium can apparently no longer be taught or discussed at Texas A&M. Diotima's Ladder of Love and Aristophanes' split humans appear to be in conflict with new A&M policies: nytimes.com/2026/01/07/us/ta…. So much for the illusion of free speech in the US.

The relevant policy is 08.01 Civil Rights Protections and Compliance. See § 2.1b: “No system academic course will advocate race or gender ideology, or topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity.” And as it appears that covers Plato as well: policies.tamus.edu/08-01.pdf

This is the only stained glass window of Notre-Dame de Verdun that survived the Great War. It is located below the organ in the old choir on the western end of the nave and depicts St. Nicholas calming a storm and leading the sailors to a safe haven.
