After my story last week about TX Comptroller @DonHuffines withholding data on the school voucher program, he announced a new "transparency tool." It will release more data than previously, but apparently won't include school-by-school or vendor-by-vendor spending info.

Greetings from Corpus Christi, where a light shower greets President Trump and Ken Paxton ahead of their rally today. Folks welcome the rain, as Corpus has struggled with a water shortage. #txlege

It’s medical tests week in our house. On the roster: 1. Bone density scan, 2. CT scan and 3. PET scan. Today I learned the way they test bone density is by measuring how long it takes for a beam of radiation to travel through your bone. 🤯

Texas AG Ken Paxton has taken about 350 out-of-state trips with a state-funded security detail, including 25 to foreign countries. During a 2017 Israel trip, organizers said Paxton insisted on his own security despite the government providing it for six other AGs. His detail cost $75,000. Important story that offers a new, unreported look at Ken Paxton’s financial ties with the very type of business executives whose prosecutions he typically celebrates.

Trump’s Education Department has not made public all its civil rights investigations at schools and colleges. So @propublica sued and obtained all the complaints and investigations. And now we are publishing them so you can search the cases too. propublica.org/article/civil…

Here is my original story on Greg Abbott and Elon Musk's redacted emails. This reporting came out last year, before I joined The @nytimes and was co-published with @propublica @texastribune: propublica.org/article/greg-… #txlege
Gov. Greg Abbott sued by opponent Gina Hinojosa over his communications with Elon Musk. Last year, @lmcgaughy got redactions when she sought the records. Rep. Hinojosa said she's entitled to them for #txlege purposes but Abbott won't release them. news.bloomberglaw.com/litiga…

Correction: The judge assigned to the GOP's lawsuit to silence the Hope Florida story is Heather Beato. DeSantis appointed her in 2020 when Joe Jacquot was his general counsel, screening judges. Jacquot now represents OpenAI in the case pending before Beato brought by Uthmeier's office, and represented Hope Florida witness Andrew Sheeran in the effort to keep the grand jury report sealed. politico.com/news/2026/06/23…

The Day the World Came to Town just made the New York Times Best Seller list at #15 for paperback nonfiction. It took more than 20 years - LOL - but still immensely honored and grateful to the people of Gander for sharing their inspirational story.

Was watching a Trump voters focus group in Florida where one participant told another about the Hope Florida scandal, and people in the group reacted with shock. "Why didn't that get more press and why isn’t anyone facing charges?!" was one reaction. Why people should read news.

Last year, just 21% of students from an Austin charter school using an AI learning platform passed state-mandated tests. Texas education leaders helped get the technology in front of public school leaders. propublica.org/article/alpha…

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD ⬇️
