Could we build a “Pizza Index” for AI labs to anticipate big OpenAI, Anthropic or other labs launches?
There must be public signals hiding in plain sight.
Something shifted last week in how I think about what's possible with AI infrastructure.
A new surface area entirely.
The builders who move early on foundational releases like this tend to define the use-cases everyone else copies later.
We're still in the first chapter.
I’m starting to think the Jev hype says more about how badly we’re building AI agents than about Jev itself.
We’ve been using $5+ frontier models to answer questions like:
“retry?”
“which tool?”
“done?”
“ask a human?”
Of course a tiny decision model looks revolutionary.
Maybe the real story is that our agent stacks have been ridiculously overengineered.
A few years ago, if you put the founder of a 1,000-person software company in a room with an early-stage founder, the learning was mostly one-way.
AI is changing that.
The big company knows scaling.
The small team may know AI workflows, agents and product building better.
That’s one of the things I discussed with @alextheuma, founder of @Shift_AI_Events, in the new SaaS Connection episode.
After 10+ years building SaaStock, Alex decided to stop the brand and start again from scratch.
Shift AI Europe is happening Oct 13–14 in Barcelona.

No one talks about how isolating it feels when you're building something real and the people around you still don't understand why you chose this path over a stable job.
Most SaaS founders (including me) know exactly what to do. They just prefer the comfort of chasing new features over doing the unglamorous work that actually drives retention.
I’m facing a challenge with lots of agents.
Their sandbox don’t allow them to download a remote file so you can’t upload a file as you would do with a chat.
Any workaround to recommend?
Used to fill every gap in my day with podcasts and audiobooks. Now those same gaps go straight to running quick tasks through AI.
My reading list has never been longer. And I genuinely miss just... consuming things for the sake of it.
Just had a surreal experience with @UPS.
They were missing one thing: my building access code. Apparently, that’s impossible to update online, so you have to call customer service, navigate a painful automated system, explain the issue to someone, and then wait 24+ hours for the file to be updated before the delivery can even be rescheduled.
And we’re supposed to believe technology is making everything more efficient.
I genuinely can’t understand how companies this big can still be this inefficient.
Working on many different things at once right now. From the outside, they might seem unrelated. But it’s starting to feel like a puzzle coming together, piece by piece.
Soon, the bigger picture will make a lot of sense.
