An enjoyable day exploring the oak canopy, tremendous insect diversity including these mating Big-headed Flies (Pipunculidae). The eyes of these bizarre-looking flies cover most of their head. A handheld stack at 1/1250 sec. #insects #macrophotography #diptera

Ormyrus nitidulus, which parasitises various oak gall wasps and a gall midge. 5mm long. Found at #SherwoodForest stuck in a cobweb. It was unharmed after I removed the silk, allowing me to get a few shots before it flew off. What a gem of an insect! #insects #macrophotography
