I can tell you from talking to young white men behind the scenes that things are incredibly desperate right now. We have guys down to their last $100, last $50, guys selling their gun collection to make rent, men who have been out of work for years, genius autodidact engineers living with their parents, unemployed software developers who know 8 programming languages, Vice Presidents of companies getting purged by Indians and living off their wife's income. Maxxed out credit cards. SpaceX and petrochemical engineers living in their cars and making money off DoorDash gig apps. Most of these young white men have test scores, certifications, and advanced STEM degrees which they were promised would make them RICH, and instead they've been brutally racially discriminated against. A lot of these young men are veterans who fought in the GWOT and their country has completely abandoned them and given everything away to foreigners. And this is not like one guy, this is dozens of guys. Honestly I'm not surprised at all, I've been telling people for the past 18 months how bad it is right now. The Texas oil fields are a lifeline for guys who are getting their cars repossessed, their phones shut off, their credit cards decline, and evicted by their landlords. Some of these young white men are needing to borrow enough money to drive out to a new job. They don't have anything left in the bank. Their credit score is so bad they can't borrow the money through usual channels. We're helping these guys as much as we can, they're getting a path to an actual long-term, high-paid prestige career rather than a gig economy shit job. There are too many desperate guys for us to help right now. We don't have enough money and power and influence, not yet. But we're individually vetting young men and feeding them into career pipelines at a slow pace. Remember this. We are going to survive, we are going to win and rebuild, most of the people who survived this far are going to make it out to the other side of the tunnel. But we can never forget what the Libtards did to our best young men. It's completely unforgivable.

Autolith is crazy. I asked it if some binary file with known format is corrupted. And the agent (GLM-5.3 flash in that case) created a whole harness to inspect such files with a nice table-like output. And ALL of this was done IN MEMORY, without EVER writing to disk! Because Autolith is a live LISP image, the agent loaded the file to RAM, and also self-modified itself with LISP code to inspect binary files. And then you can, of course, save this code to disk, if you need it in future sessions. But the fact that an agent can just modify itself with code that can outlive its context window is actually mind blowing. Honestly, hard to wrap your head around it if you never seen anything like that before. Actually, it's still impressive if you have!
Fun fact: Autolith was born on an older Thinkpad running Guix with Emacs/EXWM for Editor + Terminal + Window Manager, and CCLSH for shell This is as close to an immaculate conception for a clanker as you can get

DEAR JUNIOR LISP PROGRAMMERS YOU CAN ACCESS UNEXPORTED SYMBOLS FROM ACKAGES USING TWO COLONS INSTEAD OF JUST ONE MY-PACKAGE:MY-EXPORTED-SYMBOL MY-PACKAGE::MY-NOT-EXPORTED-SYMBOL
No one: Absolutely no one: Junior devs: how can I access private members in unit tests?

The thing I learned this year is that when engineers say they like working on “hard problems”, they actually don't. What they like is puzzle solving, and having a repertoire of patterns that they can pattern match onto traditionally hard problems, usually involving databases or something with scale, etc. And they know that the industry used to pay you a lot for how deep and broad this repertoire was. Unfortunately, in 2026, well, you have a cheat code machine that has infinite breadth and depth for pattern matching. So the question is, do you actually like hard problems? Because there are now hard problems that are a complection of engineering, product, society, culture, politics, and they are fairly intractable, probably unsolvable! Because if you do want to work on those actually hard problems, there is so much money that people will pay you for it. But you’ll have to face that truth about yourself first.

I love this. Nothing will nerdsnipe a programmer like seeing a benchmark they believe could be improved. We share the joy of a good RL loop with the clankers!

It's actually crazy how many crowns are lying in the mud waiting for us to pick them up.
Every serious software team around the world has been reinventing shitty variations of erlang for the last decade and it’s gonna be like that for another decade

This has been true since Sonnet 3.7 and great to see it getting noticed. Geoff is usually 6-12 months ahead so 2027 is going to be really fun!

never saw your post. but yeah. i suspect small talk/lisp paired with an llm means we can have directed self evolving software.

Yes, Lisp can implement Prolog. Peter Norvig, "Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming (PAIP)" norvig.github.io/paip-lisp/#… and, also, Prof. Dr. Hideyuki Nakashima who implements Prolog/KR in Lisp at 1983.
