The “AI is subsidized” take keeps going around.
But like… that’s just how startups work?!
Every tech product ever was “subsidized” early on. Then costs drop. Then it prints money.
AI costs per token have dropped 100x in 2 years. And they’re still dropping.
Meanwhile Microsoft and Google are spending $100B+ on datacenters right now. Supply is coming.
And 95% of useful AI stuff runs fine on a $20/mo subscription. You don’t need Opus 4.6 to write emails and summarize docs.
There won’t be “compute rationing.”
There will be cheap AI everywhere for everything.
We’re not heading into scarcity. We’re heading into abundance so cheap people won’t even think about it.
Like electricity. Like internet.

One more clue that we are heading towards a fork between
1. Frontier, (more) expensive models for research/enterprise.
2. "Intelligence for all", with stable/marginally increasing performance – and prices in free fall.
AGI is already here. Now it needs to be cheap and fast!
We have been focusing on efficiency and intelligence for all.
Very proud of the team. Only possible when you have incredible models at the top end of the capability that you can then use to make a big difference in everything else.

i wish anthropic/openai/etc would give practical use cases for when to use one model over the other since benchmarks are functionally useless for real-world applications.

Claude Opus 5.5 is out.
5th time I cancel my Claude subscription since November 2025.
5th time they release a new model on the same day.
I’ve become convinced that there’s a team at Anthropic that constantly watches the churn dashboard and schedules releases accordingly.

I think there is a limit as to how much smarter a model needs to be.
The next wave of models that brings us much closer to AGI will 1000x the speed for 1/1000 of the cost.
The data and the anecdata on Jev's adoption are shocking. Everyone is adopting it.
I think it's a great product, but this is also downstream of the "AI is too expensive/slow" zeitgeist. People are eager to optimize and put AI in even more places!

Blocking new subscriptions on ChatGPT Pro 20X might have been the most effective action to reduce churn in the history of humanity.
To make sure our current users have an incredible experience and continued access to Astra, we are going to pause subscriptions to our $200 Pro plan. These put the most strain on our systems and we wanted to take the smallest step that allows us to continue giving the broadest access possible. All other plans and the api remain available.
There is no impact to existing accounts and we are working on adding more capacity as fast as we can. Thanks!

OpenAI is close to releasing their answer to Grok Bot: a product I'll tentatively call Codex Bot, based on OpenClaw. This is what OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger worked on after being hired by @OpenAI.
Release was planned for this week, but was postponed to next week instead.
