This over - trivialization of electricity problem in 🇳🇬 is a woe of most politician and even executives.
How can you compare powering Bonga (captive 4MW) with powering a state of 8M with gen, T&D, market
Myopic!
@dchrisiyovwaye Sir, you need a technical adviser.
Thank you for these questions, Buna. These are issues I am particularly passionate about.
On electricity, I always like to use the Bonga offshore facility as an example. Bonga generates its own electricity using gas-powered turbines, allowing it to operate independently of the national grid. Now, my question is simple: if we can achieve this offshore, why can’t we replicate something similar here in Delta State, where we have access to enormous gas resources?
My intention is to work directly with gas producers and private investors to establish independent gas-powered plants, starting with industrial and commercial areas around Warri, Ughelli, and other strategic locations. These plants will have dedicated distribution networks supplying businesses, markets, and surrounding communities, rather than relying entirely on the national grid. We will start with selected locations, get the model working, and gradually expand it across the state. I want our people to benefit directly from the resources we are blessed with.
As for waste management, I believe we need to bring the solution closer to the people. We intend to localize waste collection at the ward and local government levels, employ more people within these communities, provide collection equipment, and establish regular evacuation schedules. There is no reason residents should have to wait for waste to pile up before something is done.
I also want us to actively bring recycling companies into Delta through private sector partnerships, establish designated waste sorting points, and create opportunities for our young people to earn a living from recycling and waste processing.
For me, these things are achievable if we get our priorities right. I don’t just want a cleaner Delta or a Delta with better electricity. I want us to build systems that create jobs, support businesses, and genuinely improve how our people live.
