Let me tell you something.
In 2023, President Nana Addo said it would cost about $114 million to complete the Saglemi Housing Project, saying it was too expensive for government.
So, instead of completing Saglemi, the government decided to build a new affordable housing project at Pokuase and hand over Saglemi to the private sector to complete.
1 August 2023, President Nana Addo cut the sod for the construction of a revised 8,000-unit affordable housing project, named “My Home, My Peace,” at Pokuase.
they promised the first 4,000 units would be completed within 18 months.
Today, 20 August 2026, there is still nothing to write home about regarding the revised affordable housing project.
Saglemi has been abandoned. The Pokuase project has also been left hanging. No prosecution. No arrests. Nothing.
It has been 14 years of Saglemi — 6 years under the NDC and 8 years under the NPP — and we are still nowhere.
The youth of Ghana, we are simply not angry enough at our leaders.
LIVE | A look at the Saglemi Housing Project, with its rows of affordable residential buildings stretching across the site in Prampram, Greater Accra Region.
Initiated in 2012 under President John Mahama, the project was originally designed to deliver 5,000 affordable homes but was scaled down to 1,506 units. For years, the site remained largely uninhabited due to missing infrastructure, including water and electricity.
In 2024, government selected Quarm-LMI Consortium as preferred developer to complete the project. The current administration has since been reviewing the arrangement, with the Works and Housing Ministry saying it is finalising contracts to complete Saglemi alongside the Kpong Affordable Housing Project, as part of efforts to address Ghana’s housing deficit of about 1.83 million units.
