It’s not even a joke that we really had a ministry of Brexit opportunities that shut down because no one could think of anything. That really happened. Foreseen by Monty Python years before of course.
What opportunities? @JustLEAVEeu All governments want to be popular & retain power. Why would successive (Tory & Labour) governments hesitate in "seizing the opportunities" of Brexit if they existed to benefit us plebs? Thus making them popular & retaining power

Forgotten just how good this was - "This Putin loving free speech imposter"👏 Farage avoids scrutiny like this at all costs. Looks at his face, wishing somebody would step in & save him He was the same on James O'Brien years ago. O'Brien keeps asking him to go back on. Coward.
Let’s have another look at the time Nigel Farage went to the US to bad mouth Britain, but ended up getting his arse handed to him by the US Senate.

Yes, Joey. She’s a democratically elected British MP, a former council leader, and she’s wearing a hijab. Which part of that do you find so difficult to accept? Her politics are fair game. Her religion and her clothes are not.
Can you believe this is actually a member of Parliament in the United Kingdom now? Look how she decided to dress for her first day.

Former Head of MI6 Sir John Sawers, "Russia was very keen that the Leave campaign should succeed and that Britain should leave the European Union" "Because that would marginalise Britain as a global player and weaken Europe in general" "That's the strategic opportunity the Russians spotted, and the leaders of the Leave campaign fell into it" My view: Former MI6 chief Sir John Sawers says Russia saw Brexit as a way to weaken Britain and divide Europe, and that the Leave campaign’s leaders walked straight into the opportunity. So let’s remember who sold it: VOTE LEAVE • Boris Johnson — political figurehead • Michael Gove and Gisela Stuart — campaign committee co-convenors • Matthew Elliott — chief executive • Dominic Cummings — campaign director • Daniel Hannan — leading Brexit advocate • Priti Patel, Iain Duncan Smith, Chris Grayling, John Whittingdale and Theresa Villiers — senior Conservative campaigners • David Davis, Liam Fox, Dominic Raab, Steve Baker and Douglas Carswell — prominent Leave campaigners LEAVE. EU • Nigel Farage — leading political figure • Arron Banks — co-chairman and major funder • Andy Wigmore — communications director GRASSROOTS OUT / LABOUR LEAVE • Peter Bone and Tom Pursglove — Grassroots Out co-founders • Kate Hoey — Grassroots Out co-founder and Labour Leave campaigner • Graham Stringer, Kelvin Hopkins and Roger Godsiff — Labour Leave campaigners • Sammy Wilson — prominent DUP Leave campaigner They promised Brexit would make Britain stronger. Sawers says Russia saw the opposite opportunity: a Britain marginalised and a Europe weakened.

🚨 The Brexit we voted for wasn’t delivered” rather proves the problem. Which Brexit? There was never one agreed model on the ballot, just “Leave”, onto which millions projected very different expectations. Ten years later, every failure can be explained away by saying the real Brexit was never tried. Meanwhile the EU hasn’t “crumbled”. Britain is still trying to renegotiate access to the market and political system we were told we no longer needed. At some point Brexit has to be judged by the Brexit that actually exists, not the imaginary one that can never fail.
This #bbcqt audience member (how did he get in?) absolutely nails it on Brexit. “The Remainers never accepted the result.” “The Brexit we voted for wasn’t delivered and left us in a half way house.” “The EU is crumbling and our future doesn’t lie within it.” A fine summary.

Are you implying that Question Time is anti-Brexit? The show that Farage has appeared 38 times on, more than almost anyone else in the history of the show.

We didn't accept the result because the whole thing was a shitshow. Leave had no plan, but the hard Brexit that was foisted on us was never on the table before the vote. As for the mythical perfect Brexit that wasn't delivered, it doesn't exist! It was always doomed to fail.

Re-evaluating decisions is a good thing, the referendum was advisory and the result accepted. It makes absolute sense that if it's a steaming pile of regretful shit for all but a few corporations and insiders that we can change our mind based on new info. THAT is freedom, that is DEMOCRACY.

"The government have actively avoided looking for evidence Russia interfered." This is arguably the greatest scandal of modern British politics. The Intelligence & Security Committee's Stewart Hosie said the government didn't investigate alleged Russian interference in the Brexit vote, and no one wanted to touch this "with a ten-foot pole". Successive British governments including Starmer's covered up the extent of Russian interference in the most important vote in modern British history. Andy Burnham has had the courage to put an end to this cover-up. But he must go further than a statement. He must set up an inquiry to expose the truth about Russian interference before and after the Brexit referendum and about the subsequent cover-up. But the main Russian interference in Brexit took place in plain sight. It was Russia's promotion of Farage on Russian TV, a level of coverage which would have required Kremlin authorisation. It cannot be doubted that Moscow saw Farage aa a useful asset, and I am sure that he has more than fulfilled their expectations.

Leave voters secured none of promises of lower migration, lower prices, cost savings delivering lower taxes, ability to return irreg migrants or deport criminals. EU more democratic than UK (FPTP, Lords, unelected monarch) with PR, confirmation hearings in EP, oversight of EC etc

This intervention👇 is significant bc Sir Richard Moore is not making the narrow ministerial argument about whether Russia changed the result. He is saying he is very confident Russia would have tried to interfere, bc exploiting divisive political issues is a standard Russian intelligence tactic. He told Andrew Marr that he would actually be surprised if there had been no Russian activity around Brexit. 🔥 That directly undermines Farage’s absolute claim that “there was no Russian interference.” Moore’s position is much closer to Burnham’s: Russian activity is entirely plausible and, in his view, highly likely; the much harder question is whether anyone can measure its effect on the vote.
🚨 Former MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore says he is “very confident” Russia would have interfered in the Brexit debate and would be surprised if there had been no Russian activity. This really matters bc Farage is still insisting there was no interference at all. The argument now isn’t whether Russia has a history of manipulating divisive Western political issues, the former head of MI6 says that is exactly what they do. The unanswered question is what they did in 2016, who knew about it, and why Britain never properly investigated it.

Who elected you?
You’re being lied to about Brexit … the people voted for it. Don’t let an unelected PM make up unsubstantiated stories & dismantle democracy because it suits a socialist agenda to pass responsibility to Brussels & the WEF away from Westminster

It’s not just the government that covered up Russian interference in Brexit. The press also played its part. This is one of the only times I was ever interviewed on the subject… by US media.
Here it is. This is the clip from yesterday's @CNN interview where I'm asked - for first time ever - about Brexit-Trump-Russia. "These vital questions of national security have been interpreted as about politics. And it's not about politics. It's about power. And about Putin."

It was clear at the time that many MPs didn't understand the EU, how the CU worked etc. I seem to remember Teresa May hadn't realised that ending FOM ended our FOM too.
Tory farming ministers barracking me in the chamber because they didn’t realise that their hard Brexit took us out of the bio food security alerts including those on foot and mouth. It was called the animal disease information system. They don’t even know what they negotiated let alone what they expect the British public to put up with. You just can’t trust the Tories with our future in Europe.
