Hey all! Giving a weekly Forever Library update here. For Ethereum FL users, the V2 site has added some very powerful features - backup storage shards, fully onchain minting via EthFS, token metadata editing (within the first 24 hours, after which a token shard is immutable), etc. However, V2 relies on the user providing their own IPFS, Arweave, or other preferred storage on their own, using sites like Pinata, ArDrive, Lighthouse, or running their own IPFS/Arweave setup, etc. This reduces platform dependency greatly, but I'm getting the sense that it's simply too foreign for people, and they just don't know what to do with it. That's on me! Also, our FL V2 contracts have given us useful features like ERC-1155 fungible editions, native soulbound tokens, plus our new V2 rendering contracts, which make the backup shards and EthFS fully onchain rendering possible. The one drawback to the V2 contract set up is, for every token minted, users need to run at least 3 transactions - mint tokens, connect the renderer, activate it, etc. This goes quicker on layer 2 chains, but it's really not an ideal mint flow for every person on every mint. Because of all of this, I have begun development on Forever Library V3 - yes, we continue to iterate. The FL V1 and FL V2 sites will live on, and the contracts are immutable, so they *can't* go anywhere. But - once you experience V3, I think you will come to agree this will have been a good decision. I believe the URI backup shard and fully onchain minting features are so important, that they deserve to be natively inside of the FL minting contract, rather then via external renderer. So, the new V3 contract, will indeed have these features natively - including sliced fully onchain minting, which no longer will rely on EthFS (not because they aren't fantastic - they are!), reducing external dependencies even further. The other main reason I was inspired to pursue FL V3 on Ethereum was building the FL Tezos contract, which had to have these features built natively into the contract. This made for such an incredibly good user experience when I was testing, I knew I needed to do this on Ethereum as well, at least as an option. Side note for Tezians - objkt only supports IPFS. This is the main reason why I will need time to provide an easier minting experience for you, and you'll need to use the V2 website for the time being. If you want @objktcom to allow the FL Tezos shared contract as an option in their mint flow, you can get FL features with the mint flow you know and love - let them know you want this! (However, if you want to mint on our FL Tezos V2 site right now, I hope you will try fully onchain uploads (objkt only supports images here), or peruse the instructions and make a free pinata account to get started for general mints 💙 - please let me know if you need help) Work is well underway, and I am SO excited to share the other new features as we get closer.
