India's tax system is NOT broken. It is doing exactly what it is designed to do. Almost 80% Indians have very poor income. Charging them any direct tax is draconian. They are already paying taxes in many other forms: eg. sub-standard labor laws, people like Salman driving over them etc. So who is left? 20% who can afford to pay. This group includes UHNIs, HNIs, business owners, job creators and direct tax payers. Now, you can't tax business folks/job creator/HNI/UHNI; tax them too much they'll move their base. If they move, they move a lot of jobs with them. So who is left? white collar workers. Or people trapped into India's financial system or employment ecosystem. In simple words: folks, who cannot move. Widening the tax base sounds good. But realistically, it is incredibly hard to do. What is easier to do is creating more employment. The tax base automatically expands. What can actually be done? 1) Cut down the size of the government (do we really need the President to live in a Palace?). 2) Cut down freebies. 3) Turn freebies into Universal Basic Income for everyone. 4) Government spending on advertisements. 5) Giving special benefits to small businesses. More businesses = more jobs for bottom 80%, who in a few years could potentially become tax payers. 6) Rather than having 2 As, we should have 20,000 small businesses. India does not have a taxation problem. We have an employment problem. Unfortunately, no one seems to be focused on solving that.

Most middle class people say this is taxation without representation. Even if they have Aadhaar cards, PAN cards & Passports they still don’t have a right to vote. The fact that so many of us have received notices from the EC proves that the govt & its stooges believe that when it comes to robbing us blind with taxes the government regards us as Indians But when it comes to choosing politicians at elections we are foreigners until we prove otherwise. And then passports, PAN cards & Aadhar cards are suddenly not enough to prove we are Indian.

For years, doctors noticed something strange about vaccines in India. Vaccines that worked well in Europe and America worked less well in Indian children. Same vaccine, same dose, weaker protection. Most people accepted it. One scientist in Vellore spent 30 years asking why. Her name is Gagandeep Kang. She trained as a doctor at Christian Medical College in Vellore, in Tamil Nadu, and then did something unusual for a physician. She went into the laboratory and stayed there. Her subject was the gut. Specifically, the guts of children in poor households. She studied what repeated diarrhoeal infection does to a child's intestine over the first years of life. What she found matters enormously. Those repeated infections do not just make a child ill. They damage the lining of the gut, stunt growth, and interfere with how the body responds to oral vaccines. That is why a vaccine developed in a clean environment abroad underperforms in a child who has had 10 infections before the age of 2. The problem was never the vaccine. It was what the child's gut had already been through. Then she went further than diagnosis. Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe diarrhoea in small children and it kills a very large number of them. India had access to imported rotavirus vaccines, but they were expensive and often out of reach for the families who needed them most. Kang led the clinical trials for Rotavac, India's first indigenous rotavirus vaccine, made by an Indian company. She was also central to the work behind a second one, Rotasiil. Both are now approved by the World Health Organisation. Rotavac went into India's national immunisation programme, which means it reaches children whose parents pay nothing for it. In 2019 she became the first Indian woman scientist working in India to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, the scientific body founded in London in 1660. It took 359 years. She has served on the World Health Organisation's global advisory committee on vaccine safety, and she now leads global health work at one of the largest health foundations in the world. She built her career on a question most people did not think was worth asking. Not how do we get vaccines to poor children. But why do they not work as well when they get there.

An 80-year-old mother is offering to return her son's Shaurya Chakra. Not in anger at the nation. In exhaustion. Assistant Commandant Vivek Saxena fell fighting terrorists in Manipur on 8 January 2003. The country gave him the Shaurya Chakra. The state promised his family land and a memorial. Twenty-two years later, Savitri Saxena is still being sent from office to office. Asked for domicile papers. Asked where she lived before marriage. Asked to keep waiting. She is 80. She says she no longer has the strength to keep doing the rounds. So she has brought the medal to a grievance camp and said: if this is the honour we give a martyr's mother, take it back. Now countries like Nepal, which contributed almost nothing to the historical climate crisis, are being told to become “resilient” while glaciers melt, glacial lakes burst, homes disappear and communities pay the bill. Let us call this what it is: They took the carbon budget. They took the economic benefit. We inherited the destruction. And then climate finance is discussed as if it were generosity. It is not generosity. It is not charity. It is not a favour. Climate compensation is a debt arising from responsibility. If the so-called developed countries were willing to enjoy the benefits of carbon-intensive development, they must also be willing to pay for the damage that development helped create. You cannot privatise the prosperity and socialise the destruction. Nepal did not create this crisis. Nepal should not be forced to pay for it.
