The administration stuffed Social Security data into SAVE so officials can search by Social Security number and run bulk checks of voter rolls. Critics have already warned the system flags eligible voters. In at least one county, a chunk of people tagged as noncitizens turned out to be U.S. citizens. The unsigned ruling notes the National Voter Registration Act still bars broad purges in the weeks before an election, which "limits the potential impact" this year. That is the court's idea of a comfort. A flawed federal database of Americans' private information is still back online for states that want to use it. Mark Elias called it what it is: a dangerous decision for voters. The Court authorized the Trump regime to turn a federal immigration database into a vast, centralized, deeply flawed pile of personal data that can be used to kick people off the rolls.
