As someone with ADHD who has literally never been late for work it really does feel like you guys are just using your disability as an excuse. Set alarms. Take responsibility for your own life.

It’s almost as if medical conditions present differently in different people.

You have societal obligations towards others that don't go away if you have a condition. If I'm working and I have to work overtime because you're an hour late to take over my shift, then you have hurt me. The fact you have a disability doesn't mean the harm wasn't done.

people with ADHD don't miss flights. when you have to be on time people figure out how to be on time. they're late because work tolerates it.

They always manage to leave work on time as well. Funny how time blindness means they can't get to work by 9 but they'll leave at 5 on the dot.

I understand that thinking about experiences outside of your own are hard, but please do consider that just setting alarms is common fucking sense. Bullshit generic advice like that doesn't do anything when your condition gives you time blindness despite your best efforts.

But WHY doesn't setting alarms work? You guys talk about this as if you have some sort of wizard's curse on you that means you physically cannot be on time no matter what.

You are actually the very worst kind of human being, and I hope at some point you experience some real suffering so you might have the opportunity to grow as a person

I do! I am completely familiar with the feeling of losing track of time while hyperfocused on something. I just recognise that it doesn't give me an excuse to waste everyone else's time so I implement strategies to work around it.

Why? Genuinely, why? None of you people have ever given a compelling reason why setting alarms doesn't work.

How can it be an excuse when it really disables?

Because there are tried and tested strategies for working around time blindness and yet people refuse to use them because they have learned helplessness.
