Last week, I shared something about the post-quantum problem. And after seeing how much hack has happened in crypto this week, most shocking of them all was the bitget hack, I kept thinking about it. $350m flew through the window lmao. If we already struggle to keep digital assets secure against today's attacks, what happens when the threat evolves? What happens when sufficiently powerful quantum computers become part of the equation? The question isn't whether quantum attacks are happening today. They're not. Will the infrastructure we're building today still be able to protect us when they can? This is where Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) becomes important. PQC refers to cryptographic methods designed to resist attacks from both conventional computers and future quantum computers. You may hear terms like post-quantum, quantum-resistant, or quantum-safe. The idea is simple: How do we keep our data and systems secure even after quantum computers become powerful enough to threaten today's cryptography? Because the cost of waiting could be much bigger than the attacks we're dealing with today. People are already losing money to hacks, compromised wallets and security failures. Now imagine a future where the cryptographic foundations protecting billions of dollars in digital assets can be challenged by a completely new class of computers. That is why I think this conversation needs to start now. And this is where Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) the core tech at @get_optimum becomes interesting. Instead of treating data as something that simply moves from point A to point B, RLNC allows data to be broken into coded pieces, mathematically mixed together, and reconstructed when enough pieces arrive. That creates an interesting possibility for post-quantum security. Rather than having to apply expensive post-quantum encryption to every piece of data, RLNC can allow protection to be applied to a fraction of the coded information while the mathematical structure of the coding helps protect the larger dataset. In simple terms: Protect a fraction. Protect the whole. The goal is to reduce the computational burden of making large-scale systems quantum-safe without sacrificing the ability to recover the underlying data. And because RLNC operates at the data and network layer, it could potentially become part of the infrastructure through which blockchain data is propagated, stored and reconstructed. This changes the way we think about post-quantum security. It isn't only about creating stronger encryption. It can also be about changing how data is structured, communicated and protected from the beginning.
