VTuber drama!! This time, within the "right wing" VTuber space between Powdur and Tactikal Templar. It's just more of an offshoot of the whole abortion debate, but more with "Christianity" as a whole. Powdur's stance is that modern Christianity is fractured and spends more time policing each other than fighting for its own existence. It's basically the objection that it has become full of slogans, branding, therapy speak, and purity testing. It has become the same kind of leftist demand for full doctrinal alignment. Tactikal Templar's position is that he is a hardline Christian, no abortions whatsoever, and takes an absolutist stance on wanting a Christian-ordered society. He has made multiple videos critical of Powdur for not following the alignment that the Christian right demands of her... calling it the "Powdur paradox, of her wanting to live in a Christian-ordered society but not be a religious theocrat. My take? I "mostly" agree with Powdur to some extent. IMO, modern Christianity isn't a unified bloc. It's a mass-market, commercialized, cult-like religious entity that has gone against the historical tradition of the Christian religion. Even though I think Christianity is the one true religion, and the Christian God is the one true God, the modern incarnation of the religion is cringe. Too many born-again Christians who never sat with the deep ideas within the religion, no intellectual rigor like the traditions flowing from Thomas Aquinas, or even Newton's theological writing. Now it's all slogans. "Christ is King," "Deus Vult," "Jesus saves," etc., and ideological purity testing based on which "brand" of Christianity you subscribe to. It collapses the complexity and the beauty of the religion into simpler, bite-sized pieces for mass consumption. There is no sitting with uncomfortable ideas and reading dozens of pages about that one idea... It's basically the preacher says, and the subjects follow... no one is allowed to have thoughts or want a deeper analysis of the ideas. This is why I don't go to church because the religion, with 2000 years of arguments, gets flattened into a set of hard-set moral rules that most of the worshipers don't even follow... some even making shit up as they go. There are a lot of hard issues people contend with, and they get ignored... things like grace vs. law, church vs. state, violence, sex, wealth, authority, and even the basics of what "following Jesus" even means. The logos, the ability to reason logically and view the world and the universe as a rationally ordered creation, is at the center of the religion... and yet the vast majority don't even engage with the logos. The Christian tradition created the scientific revolution, the industrial revolution, and the most prosperous civilization in the history of mankind. It didn't get there on slogans and purity testing. It got there by taking the logos to the maximum, stretching the human ability to understand God's design to the limit. It's the transmission from the Greek reason to the Romans formalizing it and to the modern-day hyperreality. It's that tradition that split the atom, discovered general relativity, quantum mechanics, and will eventually reach the stars. I'm not a non-believer, but I'm not a slogan eater either. This is why I don't fully agree with Powdur on this or with Tactikal Templar.
