A Child Thrown Into the Sea for Crying…⁉️ A two year old boy was allegedly hurled from a migrant boat into the Atlantic because traffickers were irritated by his crying. That is not rumour from an anonymous account, it is what Enrique Espinosa, chief of Lanzarote’s Emergency Services Consortium, said on radio after describing other crimes reported on these crossings: “There are even more terrible things than that. On a boat, they threw a two-year-old child who was crying with his mother into the water. They are terrible things.” He added that the boats have “first and second class passengers,” that the stories “border on a lack of humanity,” and that “an end must be put to all this trafficking by mafias.” Overcrowded inflatables, people squeezed on like cattle, Women assaulted, and children treated as cargo that can be discarded when inconvenient. The men who organise it collect the money and leave the dying to the sea. A civilised country does not have to pretend this is inevitable, it can make the route unprofitable, prosecute the organisers without apology, and stop confusing compassion for the desperate with indulgence of the gangs who prey on them. 😡

Two Years for a plastic Bottle ⁉️ A father of two has been sent to prison for two years after throwing an empty plastic bottle during the Portsmouth protest. The judge made clear the sentence was meant as a public example. That raises a fair question about consistency, when the system treats a plastic bottle as a two year offence while far graver crimes sometimes attract shorter terms, people notice. They are entitled to ask whether the scales of justice still weigh the same for everyone. A man belongs with his children, not in a cell over this. 😡
