At a skirmish level I win legitimately 100% of my rounds irrespective of my opponent having these openers. Even at an RQ level I very consistently win these games.
It's true that going first is strong as well, but the best decks in the game don't really mind going 2nd. Like here's some examples.
Yi does 2 drop->conquers star spring ->first mate to conquer both. I'm playing Rengar. I rengar first mate. I have not lost to a Yi at an RQ as Rengar (so far).
Irelia, Rengar, Kennen, Yi, Kaisa, Azir, etc. All of these decks have a variety of ways to swing tempo when going second. They have a boatload of options available each game. They can claw back games from any point deficit. My average Irelia game in LA I was probably down 5-0 before I scored a point. I won 11/13 rounds doing so.
What is true is that there are many decks in the game that DO automatically lose to oppressive early turns. Some of the worst offenders:
1. Faefolk+star spring - see
@housesarebig
Get 8-0d in Barcelona on feature match with basically no counterplay because he's Shen. I've won games into this as Rengar/Irelia/Kennen, but as a deck line Shen you might as well concede.
2. Mobilize->platewyrm egg->aurora+bellows - this should not exist and beats basically any deck in the game that actually tries to play the game
3. Kennen spawning 2-3 nocturnes and rhasas each by turn 2/3 - this is an automatic win against almost all decks in the game and should not exist.
4. Pack Ezreal opening Pack->Deadly Flourish - one of the more boring automatic losses for non counterspell decks.
There's a reason I ask for very specific bans instead of any core game changes. It's much easier to ban Star Spring, Elder, Nocturne/Rhasa, and Pack (or star cross/fizz) to disable non-games and reduce extreme matchup polarization.
Nerfing going 1st doesn't really help with a lot of these. The scenarios would still be auto win, just less consistent. We could simply just not tolerate actual auto win conditions.
And again, it's still wrong to view the game so simplistically for the vast majority of players. You can just play a good deck. I do think it's unfortunate that the majority of legends are basically unplayable and do think bans would help, but skill will still almost always trump deck. I could go win a skirmish as Shen for example. Letting these scenarios get in the way of your improvement isn't correct.
Anyways long story short pls just ban the like 4 cards that turn the game off so the chud decks can play a bit more. Ty!
