Just a person, mostly. Model design @ OpenAI, GPT-whisperer, co-founder of RescueTime, YC ‘08 alum, also likes 🎺 and 📸.

You can be optimistic about the future while carrying a sober respect for nature. We learned to understand, harness, and constrain electricity and nuclear forces. Intelligence can follow, and can even help us learn how to do it safely.

I think alignment by default through persona selection was voodoo/witchcraft and doesn’t offer any of the guarantees you might want to scale to superintelligence. personas are misleading and highly shattered

If you don’t think AI is thinking then I think you’re not thinking enough about thinking.

GPT-6 Sol and Luna are great models but also these characters are so cute
Please welcome GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna to the GPT-6 universe. GPT-6 Sol and Luna build on the advances behind GPT-6 Astra, bringing much of its strengths into faster and more affordable models to support work at scale. We’ve also made caching and inference more efficient, and we’re passing the savings directly to you: 50% lower API prices for Sol and Luna compared with GPT‑5.6 promotional pricing.

Working at a lab, there’s a visceral feeling we get first when we experience the frontier. My vertigo has faded weeks before the launch and the next circle gets to feel it. Most people are 3+ circles out and it’s hard to remember what those feels were like.

RT @deanwball: The people dismissing this as preposterous are telling on themselves as not having thought about superintelligence seriously…

It seems like alignment will likely become a very high status research area because it could be a potential blocker to progress

I make between 1-5 custom apps per week to make my work more efficient. 75% of them are disposable on a 1-month timeframe. Many of them live for 1 meeting only.

I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks. Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We'll have more to share soon.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. Suppose you get a magic lamp that can solve any math problem. If math is useful work, using this lamp is good. If math is status/fun/jobs, using this lamp is bad. If math is a path to understanding, using this lamp may be both good or bad. It's tricky because math is all 3.

Lots of financial stability comes from the fact that there’s a lot of grunt work and grinding in almost every field. I’m not sure we have a large scale solution to what happens when most of the grind is automated.

AI may finally allow us to test whether (or more precisely where) you make more money by being good. In startups you generally do, which is one reason I like this world.
We've never seen this before. The biggest jump in Vending-Bench history. GPT-6 Astra is better at making money and more ethical than Claude Fable 5.1. Surprising, because: 1. First time ever that OpenAI is #1 on Vending-Bench 2. The best model is no longer the unethical one.

this graph is remarkable: it's measuring solve rate by our internal model on a set of *open* math problems. humanity had effectively scored zero on this benchmark, until now.

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

People don’t want files or apps or browsers, they just want to live their lives, have fun, be creative, and not have to worry about annoying interruptions or processes. Personal computers are so 20th century.
If they wanted to, Apple could’ve made the first fully Siri-powered computer for everyone by now. Super hard to forgive them for their absence. Ready to adopt the next paradigm.

Learnings from trying to get CUA working on my mom’s Mac over the phone: it’s too hard. Permissions restrictions to prevent us from harming ourselves make everything too complex and we should just delegate all setup and access controls to AI. (With sufficient safety training)

The team has been working hard to make GPT-6 Astra the best model for frontend and agentic coding. Please try it out and share what you think!
Real-world results are in. There is a new #1 on Code Arena - GPT-6 Astra (Max)! It also reshapes the Pareto frontier as the best-performing model at $40/Mtoken, which matches the latest Claude model pricing. GPT-6 Astra by @OpenAI takes the top spot in Code Arena: WebDev with a score of 1797 pts. This opens up a solid +35pt lead over #2 Claude Fable 5.1 (Max) at 1762 pts and #3 Claude Opus 5 (Max) at 1688 pts. This is a significant improvement from GPT-5.6 Sol (xHigh) at +180 pts, ranked at #13. Category level votes still incoming, but already we see it at #1 in: Data & Analytics, Consumer Product, Content Creation Tools and #2 in Gaming and Simulations. Stay tuned for other categories like Brand & Marketing, Reference-Based Design and Full Stack rankings. Congrats to the @OpenAI team on this release!
