So let me get this straight, I go to the grocery store and buy a half a lb of sliced ham in a plastic bag, a loaf of bread in a plastic bag, a litre of milk in a plastic bottle, a pre prepared salad in a plastic tub, a plastic bottle of mustard and ketchup, but they won't give me a plastic bag to carry it home in because the plastic bag is bad for the environment? 🤯

The bigger issue is single-use packaging across the whole supply chain, not just the checkout bag.

I re-used the free plastic bag as a bin liner. Now I have to buy a roll of bin liners!

And use about 5 or 6 black rubbish bags a week, like every household in the country....

This is California. We have these new compostable bags for produce shopping that basically make your produce start spoiling in 2 days. Guess what? We are now buying the old plastic bags on Amazon and switch out our produce when we get home from the store. Otherwise the produce is rotting in 3 days. F’ing hell!

I think it's partly about the ignorant people who drop trash everywhere, including the plastic bottles and everything else that is pre wrapped in plastic. It takes a long time to break down. I believe the plastic bags were the one thing the government could control when they introduced a minimum charge for a plastic bag. It depends on the shop. Many shops use paper carrier bags now, but don't get caught out in the rain, lol.

Strange how this identical post appears about 100 times a day. There must be a lot of droids going to the shop to buy identical products.

Speaking of plastic bags, I did a clear out over the weekend and found some of the originals from Sainsbury's and Tescos. Might be worth 10p now with inflation

You can get a plastic bag but you have to pay 10p for it #ripoffbritain

It's a relatively recent phenomenon. All groceries used to come in glass, tin or paper, often newspaper.. Nothing was plastic when I was a child.

Yes. And half the food you eat contains plastic too. You're so full of plastic you're like a right wing Katie Price.

I reuse the plastic bags as my garbage bags. If forced to use paper I’ll buy plastic garbage bags so nothing changes there. PLUS I’ll now be throwing paper bags in the dump too.

It's part of their game. They laugh at how stupid people are. The more idiot we are, the better their control over us. The more we accept, the more ot confirms their brainwashing. Most humans look like it, but we are mostly brainless.

And if you drop by a Starbucks on the way home with your groceries, you can't have a plastic straw for your drink. But you're living a virtuous life

Yes, you in Kalifornia? They went to paper bags almost the day it started to rain. I had to keep plastic bags!

And the recycling process is stupid as well. Plastic, cardboard and glass all in one bin to be crushed togther. How tf is it separated 😅

I'm sure they'd be happy to give you a plastic bag. And just like all the other stuff they've given you, you'll give them some money in exchange. I'm sure someone in financial services should be able to grasp that.

My memory may serve me correctly. Back when the ban of bags started it was because if the bags made it into the ocean, the turtles and dolphins would eat them. The submerged bags would appear to be jellyfish or another food item for larger sealife. Maybe early 70s
