Spoke w the owner of a fairly large manufacturing company recently who told me he only hires immigrants and older people, bc he can't find any American-born young people willing to put in an honest day's work.

The owner isn't some conservative crank, by the way. She's clearly left-leaning. But she's also running a business and understands that businesses need to make money to survive. Which is hard to do when the job applicants in your city think that making money is inherently evil.

The wildest part about Nikole Hannah-Jones’ piece is that it accidentally makes the case for school choice, despite that she blames NYC’s issues on…school choice.
She credits her own success in life with attending schools outside her district. She notes—correctly—that students shouldn’t be locked in a ZIP code.
That *is* the argument for school choice. Her essay is a reminder of why it is crucial.
