Have you seen this alarming report on the mental health of young nurses? When nurses are experiencing suicidal thoughts, we must look beyond individual “resilience” and confront the conditions in which they work. Heavy workloads, chronic understaffing and burnout have real consequences. Supporting nurses means creating safer, healthier workplaces for them and for their patients.

And please check in on the Social Workers, Psychologists, OTs, Physiotherapists and other allied health professionals as well. There are always fewer of them and they don’t have a lot of other colleagues to help them out.❤️

A good start would be if nurses (and doctors) would start wearing respirator masks to protect themselves and patients from the ongoing pandemic, which is airborne fyi. Some have stopped masking even in areas they did pre-Covid. Can you explain this behaviour?

Add to all that, multiple infections of a virus that affects gut health, damages the brain, disrupts the endocrine system, etc. and it’s not hard to see that ignoring a mass disabling event would acerbate the already systemic problems of the modern healthcare industry

Pretty sure the stats I saw here for British Columbia said like 70% of new nurses struggled with depression and suicidial thoughts which is so sad. The Ob nurse who helped my niece last week told us that they're trying to take some medical benefits away from nurses here. shameful

I wonder if it is time to go back to team nursing? Maybe our young nurses would feel better supported and we vintage nurses could more closely mentor. Still NOT an excuse for the misuse and abuse nurses endure. 🥲

Is there someway there can be a support system put in place to help these nurses ie a call system with retired nurses to offer support, so they have someone they can talk to. Nursing is very difficult. It is so very stressful and emotional.

And it is a cycle happening again because the budget for hospitals has been cut by the Ford government post pandemic. Many are reshuffled again , jobs cut while healthcare scrambles to manage an aging population flooding ERs.
