ENGLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: INTERNATIONAL BREAK WINNERS & LOSERS England finished the extended Nations League window with 9pts from a possible 12pts, only losing narrowly to Spain. They scored 14 goals, conceding just 3 in the opener vs Spain and registering 3 clean sheets. I've assessed who I believe are the winners and losers of England's international break, from key players to those not in the squad. [THREAD💬]

WINNER 🏅: ALEX SCOTT Scott played just 90 minutes across 2 games, but his first start for England against Croatia was incredibly promising. Alongside Elliot Anderson, the two dominated the Croatian midfield and showcased the partnership they had developed at U21's level. Now we all expect Declan Rice to return to England's starting lineup in November barring injury, but Scott has made a strong statement despite missing the last game of the break through injury, that he is a viable option in midfield; allowing England to make midfield changes without having to always push Bellingham back into a more conservative role when Rice or Anderson run out of gas.

LOSER ❌: JAMES GARNER Again this feels harsh, especially considering Garner had just landed in Türkiye on holiday before being called up as an injury replacement. But similar to Eze this is less about his performance(s) across the 67 minutes he played and more related to what others did. A central midfield option who can cover right back, both areas England have needed to find depth in. But Scott's performances and Trent Alexander-Arnold's reintegration pose a long-term threat to Garner's repeated inclusion in squads. Additionally, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento are both players Tuchel looked to call-up again but had to pull out due to injury, and had they been included, well Garner would still be enjoying the Turkish sun. Garner is a class act in midfield and granted his minutes for England have been limited, but it is difficult to see a scenario where leapfrogs at least 2 of Elliot Anderson, Declan Rice, Alex Scott, Kobbie Mainoo and even Nico O'Reilly to be regularly called up.

Can’t remember the last time I watched England just run through the opposition like that. Yes it’s an aging Croatian side who’ve been poor, but I didn’t see that coming. #CROENG

INTERNATIONAL WATCH 🔎 An assist 🎯 for Eissat last night but not his most convincing performance of the season so far. His timing of engagement defensively was off, committing 5 fouls and winning just 5/13 ground duels. Much better night for him in possession, completing 86% of his passes, 3/4 dribbles and 9 passes into the final third.

LISAV EISSAT (21yrs, LCB) - ROMANIA 🇷🇴 - BRISTOL CITY 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 7 Championship starts in the first 8 games of the campaign has seen the young left footed centre back acclimatise well to English football. A dominant aerial force with a combative edge and technical quality to hit channels with his long ranged passing, Eissat blends old school defending with what is required of the modern day centre back. Eissat is 1 of 8 centre backs called up for Romania's 33 man squad, but with the expanded international window and his current form looks in a good position to add to his 4 caps to date.

Looks like Klopp may have already found his regular right back in Treu. Great performance against the Netherlands last night.
PHILIPP TREU 🇩🇪 - 25yrs - RB - FREIBURG 🇩🇪 The Freiburg fullback has been named in one of Jürgen Klopp's squads for the upcoming Nations League fixtures. A great duelling fullback who provides reliable chance creation and ball security. Looking at the 2 listed squad it appears he'll be battling Vagnoman and possibly Kimmich for minutes depending on how Klopp opts to set up his midfield.

ADAM MARKHIEV (24yrs, DM/CM) - FINLAND 🇫🇮 - NÜRNBERG 🇩🇪 Markhiev has provided key contributions from midfield for Nürnberg who sit 2nd in 2.Bundesliga undefeated after 6 matches (5W, 1D). 4 G/A, 90% passing accuracy and over 8 defensive contributions p90, Markhiev is involved in every facet of the game. The Finnish midfielder's involvement in attacking play higher up the pitch has added a different dimension to his game, one which could be on display more so at international with some favourable fixtures against the likes of San Marino and Belarus.

ADRIÁN KAPRÁLIK (24yrs, RW/LW) - SLOVAKIA 🇸🇰 - HOLSTEIN KIEL 🇩🇪 Holstein Kiel have not had the best start to the season, sitting in the relegation playoff spot in 2.Bundesliga, winless in 6 league matches (4D, 2L). But Kaprálik has found another gear after his first season in Germany. 4 G/A in 7 games (league and cup), creating 2+ chances p90 and completing 2+ crosses p90 at a 28% success rate. Comfortable off either flank and able to penetrate the penalty area with his quality of delivery; Slovakia's 3 listed strikers, all of whom are over 6ft1, will be hoping Kaprálik is on the pitch more often than not.

Great to see Junior Kadile (23yrs, LW, Lens 🇫🇷) and Kévin Pedro (20yrs, RB, Saint-Etienne 🇫🇷) called up for DR Congo 🇨🇩. Really high on both players and excited to see how they fair at international level. Part of a host of potential debutants for Les Léopards as they look to build on their 2026 World Cup success and focus on AFCON qualification.

My suggested replacements… Morgan Gibbs-White to replace Cole Palmer. Adam Wharton to replace Kobbie Mainoo. With Eze, Ngumoha and Gordon able to play LW, it’ll be interesting to see if Tuchel opts to bring in a third out and out striker for Rashford rather than another winger/hybrid forward.
🚨 Cole Palmer poised to withdraw from England squad due to load management. Marcus Rashford will be assessed for hip issue handled by Man Utd since World Cup but expected to pull out. Kobbie Mainoo also among likely absentees through injury @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7615046…
