Analytics behind the @nycmarathon, notably how “crowd science” is a newish field used to figure out starting corrals and minimize the # of runners you pass. This is always a headache for me at a big race, as I try to settle in with runners at my pace. 🏃♂️

Data Visualization rules I live by:
- use appropriate titles for each chart
- white background is safest
- summaries at top of my dashboards
- minimal colors
- use line charts for time series data
- avoid pie charts where possible
- data labels over gridlines
- ask for feedback

I struggle with face-blindness (prosopagnosia); I’m just now starting to understand its effects on my life. This essay resonated with me, both in terms of embarrassing gaffes but also handy adjustment strategies I use (notes/sketches, online photos, etc.)

We did this fun activity with our kids — tasting and rating apples with spider charts! Feel free to print and use 🍎🍏🕷🕸📊
