What's so wrong with finding like-minded people through a position one believes/adheres to/practices? It's infinitely worse, I think, to think that one will find a singular Truth and that it be found in their particular position (pretty convenient!)
It's clear that, for many people, theoretical positions are about admission to a social club, not actually seeking the truth.
