In an age dominated by technology, in which efficiency and profit often take precedence, it is so important that we continue to cultivate a spirit of contemplation and allow time and space for beauty. Such an attitude will greatly help humanity, especially young people, to discover the ability of art to uplift and reveal the depths of the human spirit and our openness to the divine. Contemplation presents a marvelous opportunity to encounter the God who is Beauty.

This “school choice” bullshit is nothing more than a republican scam to bleed public schools dry and line their own pockets. Case in point:
It took ProPublica reporters $45 and a flag to start a private school in Arkansas. No teaching experience. No background check. Nobody asked what they'd teach or how they'd measure whether kids were learning. Last month I showed you Alpha School getting rejected as a charter in Texas, then approved for the state's voucher program anyway. This is that same pipeline with even fewer guardrails. In Arkansas, the reporters registered an LLC online and got a certificate the same day. Then they applied to get public money as a microschool. It took about 10 minutes and two documents. No accreditation, no proof of financial solvency, and no cap on how many students they could enroll. They set their tuition at $7,208, the exact voucher amount per student. When they asked the state about it, an Education Department employee didn't reject them. He suggested ways they could still get the money. In West Virginia they filed on notebook paper. The state told them to take the "microschool route," where no one has any oversight. The department says it does not approve or deny microschools for any reason, including the qualifications of the owner. Unlimited students, by law. The reporters never took a dime and never enrolled a kid. But nothing stopped them from doing either. Arkansas has gone from under 100 private schools to more than 220 since its voucher program started, plus 143 microschools approved this year alone. Anyone can open one. The state can't stop you. And your tax dollars are paying for it all.

Over a decade of the most vile and disgusting things coming out of his mouth, but taunting a foreign country to “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego and saying “This is a very small price to pay.” is truly reprehensible The Republican Party is dying. They are on their death bed.

The data center backlash is about much more than data centers and even AI itself. Most people are just sick of being told that the future is something that happens to them.

Tennessee faces a maternal health crisis, and on Day One, I will sign an executive order declaring it. I've worked on this issue in Memphis, and I'm ready to take our fight statewide for more healthy moms and healthy babies.

Flock has repeatedly argued the use of their cameras is not a 4th amendment search because the courts had yet to say so. Between this and the district court in @IJ’s Norfolk case saying a certain threshold of Flock cameras would be a 4A search, the tide is starting to turn!
Extraordinary federal order to suppress evidence because a Flock search implicates the 4th Amendment, calling it "a large-scale, dragnet-type surveillance system" & "every vehicle was being indiscriminately tracked until law enforcement needed information" storage.courtlistener.com/re…

A federal district judge just declared that Flock camera systems violate the Fourth Amendment! Applying Chatrie, the court concludes that extensive camera networks engage in unlawful "indiscriminate mass surveillance." A major ruling. storage.courtlistener.com/re…

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

My statement regarding last night's botched execution: The state botched this execution because the Attorney General rushed this process, even after the execution of Tony Carruthers failed just four months ago. There is a lack of transparency around drug testing, as well as qualified and ethical personnel—but the fact of the matter is: the death penalty has always been inhumane, expensive, and biased. And Marsha Blackburn wants to bring back one of the most cruel forms of capital punishment, the electric chair. As a public defender, I’ve met a few too many people who were wrongfully convicted on death row who were later exonerated. As Governor, I would put a moratorium on all future executions. If we say we are pro-life, that means we must be anti-death penalty.

Flock data + Axon body cam footage + facial recognition, "in one searchable platform." That's the pitch VIDIZMO emailed to Johnson City PD's deputy chief. Its tech also claims behavior prediction and racial and gender analysis on live camera feeds. 404media.co/surveillance-com…
