There was a time I genuinely thought I was doing well with my design skill.
I started making designs for companies and brands. I was doing brand identity and getting clients, so I just felt like, “Yeah, I’m good at this. I don’t really need to stress myself looking for clients. The people I’ve worked with will refer me to other people and work will keep coming.”
But that was just me imagining things 😂
Because the reality is, you can actually be very good at something and still not get enough opportunities.
I knew I was good at design, but I didn’t really know how to put myself out there. I didn’t know how to communicate my value properly. I just thought because I was good, people would somehow find me.
But what if the person that gave you that big job doesn’t refer you to anybody?
What if the next person they refer you to can’t even pay you what the previous client paid?
What if that client is gone and you need another client?
How do you get the next one?
That was when I started realizing that having a skill is one thing, but knowing how to market yourself is another thing entirely.
Because nobody can know how good you are if you never show them.
And that’s one of the reasons I started taking personal branding seriously.
You need to be able to communicate what you do. You need to put your work out there. You need to let people know what you’re good at and the kind of value you can bring.
And it’s not even just about getting clients.
You can attract opportunities, brand deals, collaborations, and even build an audience that eventually buys your own products or courses.
So if you have a skill that you know you’re good at, but you’re still sitting there waiting for people to discover you, you need to start putting yourself out there.
I’ll be hosting a 3-day masterclass in October where I’ll be teaching you how to build and monetize your personal brand on 𝕏.
