An old El Paso police report contained a complaint from a human resources director alleging that Vasquez had harassed employees and used a racial slur. Vasquez's campaign strongly denied these claims, stating he never used a racial slur and was never terminated from the job in question.
Records from 2005 alleged that Vasquez made a threatening phone call ("kill and bury") to a fellow student at New Mexico State University while a mutual friend was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning
