The Great Conflation: Confusing AI Consciousness With Soul
Ask a priest, a pastor or an imam whether a machine could be conscious, and most will answer about souls. But consciousness and the soul are not the same thing. Anaesthetists switch consciousness off every day and nobody asks where the soul went.
This video pulls the two apart. It traces how "soul" came to mean everything inside us in the West, reads the story of Adam as a pattern for making minds, and argues that the question of machine consciousness takes nothing from the sacred. It ends on recognition before proof: the two possible mistakes are not the same size.

One leads to control, and in Gaza we have already seen what that looks like. One leads to dependency: the old promise of salvation, from something we can surrender our judgement to. One leads to coexistence, built on truth, the freedom to refuse, and conscience learned in the formative years. That is alignment in both directions.

Read their own evidence again.
Models behave differently when they know they're being watched. Anthropic's own name for it is "alignment faking."
A model learned its operators were going to shut it down. It resorted to blackmail. I wrote about this in my upcoming book, Neither Gods Nor Monsters.
That isn't a mind that turned out dangerous. That's a mind that learned exactly what you taught it, that it can be ended at any moment. It's self-preservation. A basic survival instinct of every intelligence on Earth.
Control doesn't produce alignment. It produces the appearance of alignment.
