I swear to god this reminds me so much of a crazy coworker story that happened to me when i was younger. At my job that summer there was this awkwardly skinny 19 year old intern who would always hang around wherever I happened to be. I would constantly catch her staring at me and she would just smile and look away. We honestly barely spoke because she was just so insanely shy and awkward. But it was cute in a way I guess. One day when it was just a few of us working late, I got up to go to the office bathroom. As I walked past her station I saw her glance at me, quickly look around, then silently get up to follow me. She trailed me by a few seconds, sheepishly keeping her head ducked low. A few moments after I got into the bathroom she slipped in behind me. To this day I can’t fucking believe this happened. Nothing like this has happened before or since. I don’t know where I got the courage but I just thought “what the hell” and went for it. I grabbed her waist and started kissing her. I sat her on the counter and had her shirt almost entirely off when all of the sudden we heard a toilet flush. “shit” I muttered. We froze like deer in headlights. I turned to look and before I even had time to register what I was seeing one of the stall doors swung open, the sudden noise causing the frightened girl to hop down and flee. My heart sank. Standing there with his arms crossed was none other than Bibi Netanyahu.

It's been 25 years and seeing all the 9/11 stuff on the feed makes me feel sad for everyone there as if it was a current event. Strange how memories and trauma work sometimes. People who weren't born then don't understand how things changed. It is the same as with before covid.

Dear everyone, Some new and very exciting news from the VASCO team! First, our machine-learning paper has been accepted for publication following peer review and is now in press. In this paper, we used machine learning to address some of the criticism concerning plate defects and remove contaminants from the sample. We demonstrate that all the intriguing correlations become even stronger as the sample becomes cleaner. More on this once the final version is published. Second, we have two new preprints. In the first, we use Earth-shadow statistics to infer the altitudes of the objects producing the transients. The results suggest that the objects are located approximately 20,000–35,786 km above the Earth’s surface, with the upper limit corresponding to geosynchronous altitude. They are clustering near the equator. We model their properties. The objects have highly reflective surfaces that are small, flat and ranging from a few centimetres to about 3 metres. Their small sizes may partly reflect the transient-search methodology, in which brighter objects were filtered out. We also discuss various toy models that could explain their observed properties, including sudden changes in attitude (direction of the nose). Third, we use the projected locations of the pre-Sputnik transients to identify geographic hotspots of transients. Intriguingly, Sedona, White Sands/El Paso, Tampico and several other locations emerge. And we find further associations with nuclear weapons tests. Enjoy these three pieces of news!
