So I first met Luke during my first year at @UA_RTIP but we really didn’t start hanging out till the Symposium in December. I haven’t been in a long time but back then drinks were flowing every night and NO ONE could keep up with Luke. The thing was while he was a great guy all the time, when he was drinking, the mischievous side came out. Man we got ourselves into all kinds of fun running around the resort causing havoc.

Still miss him so much, the guy always brightened the day of whomever he came across, great announcer, massive love of racing and just one of the best people you could hope to ever meet. We used to have so much fun.

I remember when I went on my own and relocated from Belmont to Kentucky. I drove over to CD and met Luke up in the old Gold Players room. He was so excited to show me he had found the free beer tap in there!
He also used to add these subtle little quotes in his calls. One day my horse was loading in the gate and he said in the his own clever way “so and so steps in for Arizona inter-mural legend Chuck Simon…”

He’d show up to call races at Kentucky Downs with a cooler full, in the old stand where the stewards, announcer and chart caller were squeezed in. Some of his best, most witty calls were late in the day at KD. Pretty sure that was when they’d alternate races with Turfway so the card went on forever but he’d have us cracking up, even the stewards.
Sorry for the long post but man I forgot how much I miss that guy.
