In my ideal relationship we would only communicate via text and touch. And of course in the language of fashion. But no more of this outmoded in person verbal communication

To refine the thought here: flirting comes naturally in the right situation; you're emotionally open, you like the other person and they like you, you see them every week. and you have the time to escalate very slowly It doesn't come naturally when you've got one hour to impress them on a first date, or when you meet them at a conference and have two and a half days before they disappear entirely from your life Hence the need for flirt training and strategies to get over anxiety about flirting. We're trying to do the natural thing in the wrong settings and at 1000x the natural speed

It’s kinda like drinking on a date to relax, it does work, but maybe you’d be better off going more slowly and letting the relaxation build naturally if you were in a world that allowed that

It's not developmentally appropriate for a child to learn individual letters at 2½ or 3, says Susan Neuman, a professor of childhood and literacy education at New York University (4/n)

I have the gift of never feeling like i fit in wherever i go, but at least i have hotel gyms. Although i do not approve of the wallpaper in this one. Gyms should not have wallpaper, i might feel guilty when i kick it

I think that putting on weight and not realising until someone says something is an extremely male experience. I'm sure it's happened to some women but it must be 90% men. Women are generally pretty aware of their weight!
Ladies, if you gained weight to where you were no longer looking and feeling your best, would you respect your husband more if he: A. Challenged you to attend to your health. B. Never brought it up.

My problem with Slutcon: flirting is not a skill you should expect to be able to apply to everyone. Most of us are not pickup artists or sex workers, which means flirting without mutual interest is useless

I think it just seems depressing to think about trying to appeal to the undifferentiated masses. I’m not interested in the undifferentiated masses, why should they be interested in me?

If you’re not acting flirtatiously, then either you’re not into him, he’s not into you, or the circumstances aren’t right for a romantic connection. Not things you can fix by studying more academic flirting tips

Also possible that you’re not acting flirtatiously because you’re extremely uncomfortable/not in the right emotional state for romance, which again can’t be fixed by learning a mechanical flirting playbook

“Slutcon” here being shorthand for all this rationalist-adjacent nerds teaching romance stuff
