Specifically, 17 U.S.C. § 106 grants the copyright holder (Bandai Namco) the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute their software. Downloading unauthorized ROMs or ISOs directly infringes on this right. Furthermore, under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA, 17 U.S.C. § 1201), bypassing copy-protection systems or obtaining decryption keys without permission is a direct violation of federal law.
Simply playing an older title does not make piracy legal. If we want to support the fighting game community and its competitive integrity, we should respect intellectual property and play on legitimate, licensed copies."
