๐Ÿšจ Why was the Bhumi Green Energy WTE plant in Sangli temporarily shut down? A fact-finding report documents repeated environmental compliance failures, including: ๐Ÿ”ด Untreated effluent linked to the Warana River ๐Ÿ”ด Non-functional pollution-control systems and black emissions ๐Ÿ”ด Inadequate monitoring of emissions, ash and wastewater ๐Ÿ”ด Incinerator temperatures far below the required level ๐Ÿ”ด Ash deposition on nearby crops and reported impacts on agriculture ๐Ÿ”ด Health and livelihood concerns reported by local communities The findings point to serious gaps in environmental compliance and accountability. The report calls for permanent closure, environmental restoration, compensation for affected communities, and a shift towards decentralised, zero-waste alternatives. ๐Ÿ“– Read the full fact-finding report: cenfa.org/why-was-the-bhumi-โ€ฆ #WasteToEnergy #WTE #Sangli #EnvironmentalJustice #WasteManagement #ZeroWaste #ClimateJustice #CFA @napmindia

๐ŸŒ Meet the people behind our Climate Finance course! Climate finance is a complex world of institutions, negotiations, policies, money and competing interests. To help make sense of it, weโ€™re bringing together a group of practitioners and researchers with years of experience working across climate justice, development finance, environmental governance, policy and data. Together, weโ€™ll unpack the systems behind climate finance, look at how they play out in practice, and explore the questions of who pays, who benefits, and who bears the cost. ๐Ÿ“… 26โ€“30 October 2026 ๐ŸŒฑ Five-day course | Climate Finance ๐Ÿ”— For more info & to Apply: cenfa.org/cop-cf-course-detaโ€ฆ

The silence of banks regarding this project, which disregards the environment and the rights of local people, calls their accountability into question. A follow-up letter has been sent to banks potentially considering financial support for the Sijimali bauxite project, urging them to break their silence and reminding them of their responsibilities. Banks must explain why, how, and where public funds are being utilized in destructive mega-projects like Sijimali. Two months ago (23rd July 2026), over 100 civil society organizations collectively demanded that financial institutions withhold funding for this project and conduct due diligence regarding environmental, social, human rights, and climate risks. Are financial institutions unaware of the environmental damage and the opposition from local communities? Rules and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) norms should not exist merely on paper; banks must be transparent about their funding. Through this follow-up letter, we demand immediate action and clarification from the banks. Silence is no longer an option in the Sijimali matter! Violations of rights in the name of development must cease. It is not just about profits. The rights of the people living around Sijimali, their water, forests, and land, and the adverse impact on our climate are at stake. This cannot be ignored. #Sijimali #ClimateAction #HumanRights #SijimaliBauxite #CorporateAccountability #SaveSijimali @TheOfficialSBI @HDFC_Bank @BankofIndia_IN @canarabank @IDBI_Bank @MyIndianBank @pnbindia @UnionBankTweets @bankofbaroda

JUST IN | Sending a strong message against the proposal to declare parts of the Western Ghats as ecologically sensitive areas (ESAs), the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution opposing the K Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats. Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who tabled the resolution, informed the Council that a committee headed by a retired judge would be set up and a physical survey would be done to assess the impact of the report on the livelihoods of people living in the region. He said the survey would be completed in a year. - @AfshanYasmeen reports

Six in ten workers in India are self-employed, making up the largest category of workers. India's labour statistics define the self-employed as persons who operate their own farm or non-farm enterprise, or are engaged independently in a profession or trade on their own, or with one or a few partners in household enterprises. Unlike salaried and casual workers, the self-employed are not paid wages, but their earnings come from the profits of the enterprise. Workers with lower levels of education are much more likely to be self-employed, while those with a higher education are more likely to be in salaried work. Among workers who have a higher education, 40% are in self-employment, while nearly 60% are in salaried work. Among illiterate workers, on the other hand, 66% are self-employed while just 7% are in salaried work. Self-employed people may be own-account workers who run their own enterprise without employees, employers who run the enterprise by hiring paid employees, or unpaid helpers who work in a household enterprise for no wages. #Employment #SelfEmployment #Work #India #DataForIndia
