Here’s the short answer for your grandkids: Gaza happened because the people of Gaza chose to be ruled by evil Islamist terrorists whose mission was to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. And to achieve that mission, the terrorists were perfectly willing to have Gaza demolished and the people of Gaza slaughtered. In fact, that’s what the terrorists wanted. Because the terrorists knew all along that so many ignorant and antisemitic people in the West would enthusiastically cheer them on and become willing stooges/accomplices as they carried out their evil mission. And please tell your grandkids that in spite of all of this, Israel still did all they could to minimize how many civilians in Gaza would be killed. Israel went to greater lengths to limit civilian deaths than any military in the history of urban warfare.
