I'd say the people who didn't get killed in a plane crash were the chief beneficiaries but The Independent has a different view.

- 19yo with disorder that makes him prone to blood clots - calls an ambulance with symptoms typical of a blood clot in the lungs - blood test to rule out blood clot not performed - discharged with antibiotics - reattended A&E later same day coughing up blood (red flag for blood clot). Discharged again. - saw GP a week later who sent to A&E as had obvious symptoms of blood clot - discharged with no investigation for blood clots from A&E again as doctor “forgot” to refer to be admitted for tests - attended later same day as symptoms worsening. WAS actually admitted but communication so poor and kept in waiting room on a chair after “admission” that he didn’t realise he’d been admitted and went home to sleep. - died next day at home His life would have been saved with a simple blood test at any of the FIVE separate encounters with medical professionals.
A FOI has just come back regarding the staff involved in the decision making in this tragic case . The death of 19 yr old Isaac Arrowsmith.

“He said I shouldn’t have been taking Klonopin for so long, almost like I’d been writing my own prescriptions for the past nineteen years.” A powerful account of benzodiazepine withdrawal—and the harm compounded when doctors fail to recognise it. This is just another story which shows why safe tapering and believing patients matters. Link below

Worst drugs I've ever taken: - SSRIs - High dose Accutane Both prescribed to me as a teenager. Both left me lasting health issues that persisted years after stopping them (and changed the trajectory of my life). 10/10 don't recommend

Some psychiatrists continue to insist that studies like Henssler prove that withdrawal is not a major concern, ignoring all the biases of the study. Dr Shapiro @BShapiroMD and I try to set the record straight here but I fear we are talking to people with closed ears. Link below

I don't agree with everything RFK Jr says but I think the mainstream media owe him an apology on this account. I have had many patients say that they found coming off antidepressants harder than coming off heroin. And now there is large-scale data to back up those anecdotes. This of course is distinct from addiction. The pre-requisite for withdrawal is physical dependence which is a predictable physiological response that is the consequence of adaptation to a drug. Physical dependence does not involve compulsion, craving, etc. Opioids cause addiction because of their reinforcing euphoria which antidepressants do not do. But they are both cause physical dependence and evidently comparable levels of withdrawal for the higher risk antidepressants.
In an analysis of drug withdrawal to the FDA adverse effects database here were the signals for the 20 drugs with strongest risk of withdrawal. Paroxetine, duloxetine and venlafaxine where in the top 20. Paroxetine was no. 4, above several opioids.

I'm sorry to disappoint a lot of people but I have just received a good bill of health from the medics Basically, the doctors don't yet know what I am going to die of This means that I can keep my options open

How does an ordinary emotion become a diagnosable condition needing a pill? Christopher Lane found the paper trail. A rare internal document on paroxetine (aka Paxil / Seroxat) reveals the mechanism: two accounts of the same adverse reaction. Internally, withdrawal from the drug was a “major issue.” Externally, it was “generally well-tolerated.” That whitewashing is the business model SHYNESS: HOW NORMAL BEHAVIOR BECAME A SICKNESS exposes — from the late 90s redefinition of shyness to the publication plan that sold it.

It's such a shame that so many psychiatric medications are losing their efficacy. I wonder what happened.

8. I made this based on the accounts of people with PSSD as well as my own experiences of taking paroxetine (I don't have PSSD). That is, unlike depression's anhedonia (loss of pleasurable feelings but not loss of distressing feelings), paroxetine made me lose ALL feelings - both pleasurable AND distressing feelings. And as strange as it sounds, I wanted distressing feelings back, because without them I didn't feel like a human being and didn't feel like me. (8/16)

My gran was put on an SSRI for 'anxiety'. Her symptoms were actually due to her pacemaker needing adjusting. The heart Dr then told her to stop ALL meds, including the SSRI. She was plunged into acute withdrawal which caused endless trips to A&E. No Dr spotted the withdrawal.
A GP put my nan on Sertraline because she complained she had regular headaches. How are these people considered doctors? They are some of the most braindead people I’ve ever come across.

Deeply concerned about the incident that occurred on the Flydubai flight to Israel and very relieved that the plane landed safely thanks to the actions of those on board. All of my thoughts are with those injured in the attack and all those on the plane, as well as their families.

Before getting protracted withdrawal from escitalopram/Lexapro I’d never heard of protracted withdrawal before. Before getting akathisia from withdrawal of Lexapro, I’d never heard of akathisia before. Before getting Sl from withdrawal of Lexapro, I’d never had SI before.
