CALMHAF SPONSORS INAUGURAL UNMSA MENTAL HEALTH DAY On 3 October 2026, the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation stood with the University of Nigeria Medical Students’ Association for the first UNMSA Mental Health Day, as an official partner and lead sponsor. The theme was “Beyond Awareness: Building a Culture of Mental Well-being,” and that was the brief we tried to keep: not only to talk about mental health, but to make support easier to reach. CALMHAF’s co-founder, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwachukwu, led the team, with Ambassador Ophilia Alete and volunteers Eunice Edson, Judith Izuchukwu, Samuel Igbelina, Mmesoma Nwodo, Ifeoma Nwafor, Chiderah Chidi, Vivian Okochi, and Charles Ozoaka, who gave the day their time and care. We spoke with the students about not rushing life or youth — that hurry can feed anxiety and depression — and about learning, unlearning, and living in the moment. The team also sat with them, anchoring multiple breakout sessions, on ADHD, PTSD, sleep disorders, and eating disorders, and kept a wellness booth open for free screenings and assessments, stress-relief balls, affirmation handbands, journaling books, and a few games meant to help people exhale. UNMSA kindly presented us with a plaque of appreciation. We are grateful. This campus day sits beside years of the same work in schools, worship centres, clinics, hotels, disaster settings, IDP camps, and other communities. Mental health education is for everybody, and no one has to walk that road alone.

CALMHAF TAKES CALMNESS TO THE ANDOVER HOTEL Hotel staff in Nigeria often carry more than the guest list: long shifts, understaffing, difficult guests, irregular rosters, rising costs, and the pressure to stay cheerful while exhausted. The result is fatigue, missed details, and worn-down teams. On 22 September 2026, CALMHAF, through COLI Mental Health Academy, ran a tailored stress management workshop at The Andover Hotel, Enugu. The focus was staying calm under pressure so service, focus, and workplace climate stay strong. Staff learned eustress vs distress, how to spot triggers, how the body and mind react to stress, and practical tools for the floor. Breakouts and hotel scenarios practised calm language, ownership without self-blame, and recovery after difficult guests. Wellness games and play therapy restored energy and team spirit. The session was led by Rev. Chukwudiebube Nwachukwu and Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwachukwu, moderated by Miss Ophilia Alete of Correct FM Enugu, with support from Ifeoma Nwafor, Chiderah Chidi, and Precious Nwodo. 44 staff attended, including the General Manager. Participants left with tools they can use immediately. Supporting wellbeing is an investment in performance and retention. CALMHAF and COLI Mental Health Academy can deliver the same workshop for other hospitality teams. Contact us to book at info@copeandlive.foundation. Call Toll Free - 08000002673.

ABA MARKET DOESN’T PAUSE FOR STRESS On 25 September 2026, the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation joined the Gutsy Women Network and partners at Aba Market to put mental health beside livelihood support for market women. Trading pressure is not only a business issue. Financial strain, family responsibility, difficult customers, fatigue, and worry all affect wellbeing. We spoke about early warning signs, healthy coping, stigma, and why mental wellbeing belongs next to sales, stock, and profit. Participants received our toll-free line: 08000002673 Partners also provided generators, grinding and sewing machines, solar items, aprons, financial education, and NAPTIP anti-trafficking information. Several bank accounts were opened. Mental health education belongs inside economic empowerment — not outside it. Read the full report on our website. If this work matters to you, share it, point someone to 08000002673, or stay with us as we take mental health into the places people actually live and work. #MentalHealth #WomenEmpowerment #Aba #AbiaState #MarketWomen #MentalHealthAwareness #CALMHAF

Sixty-six years of independence is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and hope. Today many of us will wave flags, share food, and give thanks to God. Others will feel tired, anxious, lonely, or quietly overwhelmed. Both experiences belong on this day. A nation is only as well as its people, and mental well-being is part of our shared independence. If this season feels heavy, you are not alone. Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation walks with individuals, families, and communities across Nigeria with compassion, counselling, and practical support. We can honour our heroes past by caring for the living — including ourselves. Happy Independence Day. Reach out if you need to talk. Check on someone who has gone quiet. Let compassion be part of how we love our country.

Hotel workers in Nigeria often carry more than the guest list. Long shifts, understaffing, difficult guests, irregular rosters, and the pressure to stay cheerful through exhaustion are everyday realities. Rising living costs and long commutes add to the strain, with one person often doing the work of several. The result is burnout, fatigue, and staff who are present but worn down. The Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, through its IAOTH-accredited COLI Mental Health Academy, is holding a tailored stress management workshop for staff of The Andover Hotel, Enugu, on 22 September 2026 at 9 am. The session will give the team practical skills to manage stress, protect their wellbeing, and stay effective at work. Supporting staff wellbeing is an investment in better service, stronger retention, and a healthier workplace. Contact us to book a similar workshop for your team. Toll-free: 08000002673. Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false. We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified. The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project. The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion. It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind. If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

SURROUNDED… BUT STILL ALONE Have you ever wondered, why are the offices of counsellors, life coaches and therapists filled with people who have families, relatives, spouses and friends, yet they still choose to speak to a stranger about their deepest struggles? Why do people who die by suicide so often have many people around them, yet no one was able to give them the support they needed to keep living? Because we are not really there for the people closest to us. Because we assume they are fine, and we rarely ask twice. Because we can be near and still far from our friends and family. Because noticing someone is not the same as reaching them. If you are struggling, you are not alone. Talk to someone you trust, or call our toll-free helpline: 0800000COPE (0800 000 2673)

THE BABY CAME. DEPRESSION DID TOO. Pregnancy and the postpartum period can trigger or worsen depression in some women. Risk often arises from a combination of hormonal change, genetic vulnerability, limited support, financial strain, substance use, maternal age, significant weight change, first-time motherhood, unplanned pregnancy, and other stressors. Antenatal and postpartum depression are recognised, female-specific presentations of depressive illness. They are common, medically real, and too often under-recognised. The World Health Organization estimates that about 10% of pregnant women and about 13% of women who have recently given birth experience a mental disorder, most often depression. In many developing countries the figures are higher—around 15.6% during pregnancy and 19.8% after childbirth. Broader reviews of postpartum depression symptoms have estimated a global average near 17%, with marked regional variation. Like other forms of depression—including cyclothymia, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), atypical depression, and bipolar disorder—perinatal depression can be overshadowed by the expectation that pregnancy and a new baby bring only joy. That assumption delays recognition and care. Every pregnant and postpartum woman needs consistent care and a reliable support network, both before and after delivery. Seek counselling, therapy, or clinical help without delay if symptoms become overwhelming, or if any of the following appear: suicidal thoughts, difficulty bonding with the baby, panic attacks, loss of interest in sex or intimacy, isolation, or thoughts of harming herself or the baby. Early support can protect both mother and child. ON BULLYING At the recently concluded GlowPulse Emotional Intelligence Bootcamp for kids, organized by the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and COLI Mental Health Academy, the risks of bullying and cyberbullying at home and at school were highlighted including their effects on a child’s self-esteem and productivity. In addition, bystander intervention was discussed among other useful prevention tools. These sessions were taught by Reverend Chukwudiebube Nwachukwu, founder of the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and COLI Mental Health Academy (an IAOTH accredited training provider). Also, one of our volunteers, a final-year student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Chidera Chidi, shared a personal experience about being bullied in school and how her teachers, both male and female, resolved the situations. Rev. Nwachukwu calls on parents and caregivers to realize that bullying and cyberbullying are learned behaviors and operate on opportunism and the balance of power and should promptly correct all bullying behaviors at home, as uncorrected behaviors reinforce them.
