Just the one apple this year from the tree, a Laxton's Superb. I think it dropped its fruit early because of the heat.

I can't say I understand these much yet, so I'm just treating them as brilliant musical objects. But I already feel the harpsichord is the real thing, with plucking, buzzing, mashing and glittering sounds - a bright metallic clarity suited to the baroque declamatory style.

Rose in the garden, not colour-boosted, this has always been the most intensely beautifully coloured rose. I'd call that crimson.

And common ragwort. I looked on dozens but didn't find one cinnabar moth caterpillar, which have black and yellow stripes.
