Ryan Reynolds says ’80s nostalgia “paves over all the trauma” of the “tumultuous” decade:
“The 80s was a brutal, brutal time for people. It was a fucking mess and people forget that. It was a tremendous strife. Socio political tensions everywhere. We were still pretty fresh off a Cuban missile crisis, which was only 15-20 years before. It’s a tumultuous period, but you look back at it now and you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah. ‘Top Gun.’ Cocaine!’ Like, ‘No!’ It was really scary.”
In Apple TV’s “Mayday,” Reynolds stars as a U.S. Navy pilot who builds an unlikely friendship with an eccentric ex-KGB agent (Kenneth Branagh) obsessed with ’80s American culture.

When I worked in DTLA, I’d go to a Mexican restaurant in the Los Feliz area called El Chavo. I’d sit at the bar and drink margaritas. On the wall in the bar area was this huge picture of Dolly Parton, nice big smile in black and white. I’ll never forget that picture. RIP.
Dolly Parton, the singer-songwriter-actress whose glittering country music stardom was matched by her pop fame and popular parallel careers in film and TV, died on Aug. 25. She was 80 years old.

Just saw Spiderman BND. I really enjoyed it. Still a thrill to see Spiderman swinging through the city. Love the moments that captured the comic book covers. Punisher was awesome. Also really appreciate how they gave credit to all the past artists and writers of Spiderman comics.
