This is an obvious feature. But it's something that can only be standardized now due to the maturity of the underlying tech. In the early days, chains weren’t fast or cheap enough to reliably put an onchain transaction directly into a card authorization flow. So the standard approach was to move funds in advance to a separate collateral balance. If an AI agent can spend on your behalf, who controls the card? That is one of the central questions in agentic payments. Giving AI agents payment credentials is only half the challenge. Developers and cardholders also need control over how those credentials are used. Every great company needs an origin story. Rain has a cool one. Farooq and Charles initially partnered on a fundraising automation tool: SignAndWire. It let investors sign a term sheet and then wire the funds through a single platform. At the time, there was demand to add an option to sign and send stablecoins. So @cnaut built that into the platform. From there, it quickly became apparent how radically better stablecoins were than every other funding method. When investors sent payment through ACH, it would take up to 10 days to make it through the platform to the founder's bank account. An anxiety-inducing wait for first-time founders. Then, over Christmas, @balajis wanted to make an investment while banks and traditional systems were closed. He was able to send the funds in USDC in 30 seconds. That was a lightbulb moment for @rooqster and @cnaut. Stablecoins were clearly a better way to make payments. They had caught a glimpse of how the entire financial system would one day work. Then came @raincards.
