Not one single U.S. official has been held to account for these massacres. 29 December 2001, Afghanistan The U.S. bombed a wedding in Qalai Niazi village in eastern Afghanistan which killed 110 people. Wedding guests were described as having been “vaporized” by U.S. bombs. 18 May 2002, Afghanistan U.S. planes bombed a wedding party in the village of Bul Khil in Khost, Afghanistan for several hours. They killed 11people. 1 July 2002, Afghanistan The U.S. dropped seven 2,000lb bombs on a wedding in Uruzgan, Afghanistan which killed and injured more than 250 people. They bombed the wedding for two hours using a B-52 bomber and an AC-130 helicopter gunship. The UN found that that U.S. forces had removed vital evidence from the site of the bombing. 19 May 2004, Iraq Ashad Rakat and Rutba Sabah were celebrating their marriage in Mukaradeeb, Iraq. The U.S. bombed and invaded the celebration, and killed 42 people, including 11 children. “We went out of the house and the American soldiers started to shoot us. They were shooting low on the ground and targeting us one by one...I fell into the mud and an American soldier came and kicked me. I pretended to be dead so he wouldn't kill me,” re-told one of the few survivors, sister-in-law of the groom. 6 July 2008, Afghanistan A wedding party was travelling through Kamala in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. When the group stopped to rest, a U.S. military aircraft dropped three bombs on them. The first bomb hit a group of children and killed them all instantly. The second group bombed a group of women in the middle of the party. The third bomb killed the bride and two children as they tried to escape the area. The U.S. killed 47 people, including 35 children. 20 August 2008, Afghanistan Haiji Qadar, an elderly man, was hosting more than 40 relatives at his home in Laghman, Afghanistan for a wedding party. The U.S. targeted and bombed the house. They killed 16 people and wounded many more. 3 November 2008, Afghanistan The U.S. bombed a wedding ceremony in the village of Wech Baghtu which killed 40 people, mostly children. 6 June 2012, Afghanistan NATO forces bombed a home in Sajawand village in Afghanistan, where people had gathered for a wedding party. 18 people were killed. “The house is completely destroyed. Everyone is shoveling to try to get the bodies out. Some of the bodies have no legs, no hands,” said Mohammed Wali, head of the local council of Sajawand village. 12 December 2013, Yemen An 11-car wedding procession fitted with ribbons and bows was transporting a wedding party from a lunch to another village near Radda, Yemen. The U.S. bombed the cars and killed 12 members of the bride and groom’s families. Lockheed Martin Hellfire missiles were used in the attack. 23 September 2019, Afghanistan NATO- and US-backed Afghan government forces bombed a home in Helmand, Afghanistan as people celebrated a wedding. At least 40 people were killed. 1 September 2026, Iran The U.S. bombed a home near Sirik, Iran where people were hosting a wedding celebration. The bombing killed 5 people and wounded more than 60.

Today in New York City, CODEPINK activists delivered thousands of signatures to U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein to demand he allow Cilia Flores to be released on home detention. Security searched and seized activists' belongings, but they were able to successfully deliver the petition to the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York. Flores, 69, has a serious heart condition, and doctors have warned a cardiac episode could be fatal in her current state. She and her husband, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, were seized during a U.S. invasion and forcibly transported to the United States in January. Since then, they have been imprisoned in Brooklyn without any conviction or any evidence presented against them. Regardless of the charges before the court, nobody's dignity, health, or life should be expendable because they find themselves on the wrong side of U.S. foreign policy. This is a matter of life and death. Release Cilia to home detention!
