I rewatched “The Fugitive” recently, there's this hilarious moment where the US Marshals get lost in the dam and argue after right after Kimble dives off the edge.
You could cut this scene out and nothing would change. But they kept it in, because it’s funny and endearing.
a lot of movies seem terrified of letting a scene exist without a purpose. everything has to reveal character, advance the plot, establish a theme or foreshadow something. sometimes a scene can just be people sitting around talking nonsense. cinema could use more useless moments
