“Leave a Light On” has an unexpected guest: George Harrison played the song's distinctive slide-guitar part. Belinda Carlisle suggested his name to producer Rick Nowels when they were looking for a guitarist with a unique sound, and Harrison quickly agreed to participate. He went on to contribute not only to “Leave a Light On” but also to another track on Carlisle's 1989 album Runaway Horses, “Deep Deep Ocean.”

“Would?” was written by Jerry Cantrell for Alice in Chains’ 1992 album Dirt. It first appeared on the soundtrack to Cameron Crowe’s film Singles, in which the band made a cameo as a bar band. Cantrell wrote it as a tribute to his friend Andrew Wood, the Mother Love Bone singer who passed away in 1990. Released to US radio in June 1992, it reached No. 31 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In the UK it peaked at No. 19, the band’s highest position there at the time. The track has stayed in regular rotation ever since, and in 2019 a trailer for the second season of The Punisher sent it back onto Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart at No. 15.

THIS‼️‼️‼️ if you dont think that twt drama wastes your time, or your daily life commitments are not disrupted because of them, i dont think voting will make it any worse. If anything, it’ll take less time, effort, and actually help svt irl. #SEVENTEEN #2026MAMAVOTE

“Desert Rose” is from Sting’s 1999 album Brand New Day. The atmospheric track features Algerian raï singer Cheb Mami. It peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 in Canada and No. 15 in the UK, and reached the Top 10 in several European countries, including No. 1 in Portugal and Greece. The music video already showed Sting in a Jaguar S-Type in the desert. Jaguar then offered to air portions of the clip in its television campaign. Radio programmers began playing the song more often, and what had been a modest single became a worldwide hit. Sting was initially reluctant, worried that the partnership conflicted with his environmentalism.

“Lucky Man” was written by Richard Ashcroft for The Verve’s 1997 album Urban Hymns. Released on 24 November 1997 as the album’s third single, it reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 16 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart. The UK video, directed by Andy Baybutt, was filmed at Thames Reach in Hammersmith, with Ashcroft on acoustic guitar and the band ending up on the roof. A separate US version was shot in New York and on a mountaintop. Bono later named “Lucky Man” as one of six songs from 1986 to 2006 that he wished he had written.

“Seven Nation Army” was written by Jack White for The White Stripes’ 2003 album Elephant. The riff came first: he stumbled on it during a soundcheck at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel in January 2002 and initially thought it could work as a James Bond theme. Released in 2003 as the lead single from Elephant, the song reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative chart, No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart and only No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. It won the Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2004, while Elephant won Best Alternative Music Album. Neither the American nor the British label had wanted it as the first single. The riff later escaped the song entirely: fans of Club Brugge began chanting it in 2003 and by the 2006 World Cup it had become a stadium anthem, sung without a single word of the original lyric. Two decades on, crowds at football grounds and other sports events are still chanting it.
