better writing ≠ better video.
typos, bloated sentences, etc. all of that shit don’t matter.
at least, as much as you think.
what matters when you’re scripting videos that people watch?
first, you need to understand a chunk of your audience aren’t watching your video. they’re listening to it while doing chores, reading, etc.
what your scripts really need are these:
• you need to script like a friend is right beside them and talking to them. when you’re explaining stuff to your friends, do you care if your last sentence was too long? no. you care about being understood!
• you need to write simply. simple english always!
• your scripts need to have rhythm. go research the best public speakers and you will notice their speeches have rhythm. to do this in youtube, vary sentence lengths.
• your scripts have to give your audience a reason to watch. that’s where retention techniques and structures come in.
i wrote fiction for years and I believed beautiful writing was the way.
copywriting taught me otherwise.
years of writing videos that generated millions of views has cemented this belief.
better writing ≠ better video.
