I want to agree but look at the prices in Germany - a tiny, tiny bit better that's all
Failures of privatisation. Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 jobs RM doesn't meet letter delivery targets. Regulator keeps lowering them Postage: 1st class, £1.80, 2nd class 91p. When privatized in 2013: 1st class 60p; 2nd 50p. Poor service, triple price. theguardian.com/business/202…

the truth is that current indicators suggest the Lib Dems are going to do much, much better than they deserve, the Reform - Con antagonists driving ppl (including very wet green voters) to a John Major mush

i'm not a Green! so who cares what I think! But anyway here I am. the main question in my mind is if accepting one or more amendments to this paper would have locked down more buy-in from many of the senior Greens and helped the party weather what's now happening. Genuinely idk

I have convened a regular meeting of what are described as unpaid carers for a few years now. These are family members who care for their disabled children, siblings or parents, or, in some instances, both. They are the largely hidden & unrecognised foundations of our existing precarious care service. They care out of love & duty, but the pressure they are under is often unrelenting and thrusts many into severe hardship and poverty. This article speaks for so many of them about the fears they have for the future. So yes, in this incredibly welcome discussion about social care it’s important they are not just heard but are part of the design & creation of the new system of social care in our country. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

he may lose, but if you look elsewhere in Europe, you may well conclude that it is either confrontation or slow strangulation & that is something that even nice Andy will have to grapple with, I expect
Having called a snap poll, Sánchez will now fight his 6th general election in 11 years. The distance he has travelled in that time is summed up by him explained his decision in terms of needing "a much broader, progressive majority, with which to bring the elites to heel, achieve further social progress, and continue to transform Spain."

correct me if i'm wrong - if you want to remove a tumour you'd cut it out in a way that would be invasive and might include 'healthy' cells and tissue. the situation with Israel's influence on UK politics is *so bad* that it is unavoidable. It will hurt. Well done Greens. Brave

isn't a way to simply 'switch off' the existing nuclear power plants tomorrow. But neither is there a way to fully decommission and demolish the existing ones in the next 100 years. I hope the Greens still remember that, as the ex-Corbyn contingent have a bit of blindness here

it is very interesting that this petition to drive down the pension age to 65 isn't being (as far as i can tell) driven by @The_TUC or the Labour Left but really just concerned citizens moreorless ignored by the discourse. Interesting. cc @johnmcdonnellMP petition.parliament.uk/petit…

so I'm not doing 'the Left left me' or any of that nonsense but I simply do not understand the absence of what should be core campaigning for any labour movement & can only think of some kind of deep misalignment somewhere

it's a a very fractured thing, the british left. Demographics tilt towards ppl in their 20s and 30s and then a much older generation. post-2010 generation brought their own energy but also a certain fragility and lack of lived experience in many cases.. and here we are

probably close enough to the truth but with a couple of additional notes, in that Burnham is a genuinely *nice* guy and certainly Blair never particularly was, that matters, and secondly there is no 'Plan B' for the centre-left, this is its 9th life already for a generation
Burnham is a Tony Blair retread trying to recreate the vibes and feel good factor of 1997, but with George Osbourne’s austerity thrown into the mix, whoever came up with this plan needs to seek professional help, it isn’t going to survive the catastrophic collision with reality.

dare i say it but politics twitter - at least based on the non-far right - seems pretty minimal/dead in terms of engagement? have ppl in the uk overdosed & are having a break, or so many ppl have left or was it always a bit crap?

wanted to like this but increasingly i find myself wondering if this isn't a circular argument that eg Robin Murray and Hilary Wainwringht addressed decades ago -make growth *your* growth, there's not much scope to do socialism *without* a welfare state (social democracy) first
I’ve written for Tribune after the Labour Conference and before the Greens’ on the urgent need for a new economic programme for the left - not defined by 2008, not looking back to social democracy, recognising that growth in the future will be uncertain. Link below!

the full story here even adds to it. Much as with Newcastle Brown Ale, something which should be an amazing brand has been trashed by a big brewery with no interest in heritage @JamieDriscollNE
