Some of Tether’s funds have reportedly been frozen amid concerns over a possible bank liquidation.
The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking the forfeiture of approximately $84 million seized from accounts belonging to payment company Capstone at Wells Fargo and JPMorgan.
Capstone processed payments for clients of Caribbean-based EQIBank. One of those clients was Tether, with hundreds of millions of dollars linked to Tether and Bitfinex reportedly flowing through Capstone.
The funds were seized earlier this summer, but Tether’s connection to the case has only now become public.
