When the government abruptly shut SFI in February 2025, their excuse was that it was an unfair Tory-designed first-come-first-served system… so they took 18 months to come up with….an unfair first-come-first-served system. An utter shambles with heartbreaking consequences.

Here's a novel idea; EAT A BALANCED DIET! Have a meal that contains meat if you so wish with vegetables or salad. Stop blending and messing about with food to meet climate targets/ bulk food out for profit, whilst burning manufacturing energy to do so.
Lidl has put peas in the beef and written High Protein on the front.
The pea is hidden in a little black box, in a font you need a suspicious nature to read.
It isn't a pea. It's the beige powder left after yellow split peas are milled and soaked in alkali. Vegan shakes are made from it. It tastes of a wet cupboard and it costs a fraction of mince.
It's short of methionine. Beef isn't. So the 37g on the front is a bigger number doing a smaller job.
The cow spent 2 years turning plants into beef. Lidl has put the plants back in.
They took the fat out too. The flavour, the vitamins and the fullness left before the pea arrived. Food removed, crop added, and the word for that is High.
Nobody in a gym has ever read past High.
The reason isn't hidden. Lidl promised a quarter of its protein would be plant based by 2030. The meat-free aisle went grey. So the peas are going into the beef, where the customers are.
In Holland the same mince is already 40% pea. Britain hasn't been told its number.
Tesco printed Meat & Veg on the box in 2019. Dead in a year. Lidl moved the veg to the back.
Buy the ugly 20% mince with one ingredient. The animal already ate the peas.

The SFI debacle ramifications are still coming in. On my parents farm they have missed out on organic funding. They have farmed organically for nearly 30 years, might this be the point all of that is undone. Numbers will be crunched...

Lidl has started adding PEA PROTEIN to beef mince… and calling it “High Protein Beef Mince.”
No, seriously. Apparently beef wasn’t protein enough.
This new range landed in Lidl stores across Britain on 18 September. It mixes British meat with plant based pea protein, and Lidl says the products contain at least 20% more protein than their traditional versions.
Lidl has committed to increasing plant based protein to 25% of the protein it sells by 2030. And Lidl itself says this new hybrid meat range helps bring its “Planetary Health Diet commitments” onto supermarket shelves.
So we’re taking beef, one of the most naturally protein rich foods humans eat, mixing pea protein into it, then putting a massive HIGH PROTEIN label on the front as though we’ve somehow improved meat.
That’s quite a marketing trick.
If I pick up a packet labelled BEEF MINCE, I want beef mince.
Not beef mince quietly helping a supermarket hit its plant protein targets.
How long before finding a packet containing just beef becomes the premium option?

Our climate is changing and the Government has one message: Britain is stepping up.

After the Omni shambles of yesterday mornings like today are a tonic. This bit of the business makes sense to me and it is where I shall focus. We will always look after our farmed environment, it's in our interest, but as we see fit.

The brutal reality is that the Farming Roadmap points to a future supposedly funded by private finance, not government funding. The scheme is already woefully underfunded and inflation will make it ever worse. Keep production firmly in your business future cross hairs.
sfi application ready to submit and were sat at the computer doing it when we had an email saying the budget had been 100% allocated in less than 6 hours. Tomorrow we have to decide to plough up and plant over 30 years worth of conversation work.

An utter shambles, open for roughly five hours. Anyone using an agent or shock horror busy farming may well have missed out. If this is the new reset with the countryside the Labour Party really has a long way to go.

The USDA downgrades Kenya's maize production forecast by 51%, and wheat production more than halved. There are very few options for white maize and I'm guessing the wheat gap is not going to be filled by Black Sea crop anytime soon.

Stop all imports of their agricultural produce until he winds his neck in. Unilaterally supporting the Argentinian economy whilst they increase rhetoric as a potential adversary seems unconscionable. Send a message and support our own industry, kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Here’s a thought which would put British farmers on a more level playing field with the competition from rest of the world. The government needs to urgently introduce interest free loans to enable farmers to plant next year's crops, and provide feed and bedding for livestock for everyone facing a shortfall. So @NFUtweets are going to lobby for just that.

🇧🇷 The EU will prohibit imports of Brazilian beef, poultry and several other animal products from September 3, but the UK has yet to follow.
The decision comes after Brazil failed to demonstrate compliance with EU rules designed to tackle antimicrobial resistance.
Now, all four UK farming unions are calling for an equivalent UK-wide ban. ❌
