'Was Sein Kann' is a Group show at Kienzle Art Foundation. Curated by Max Mayer with @wrngfrmt
The show weaves historical connections between the material concerns of painting and artists working digitally. It is puncuated throughout by small Lee Mullican digital works from the 1980s (himself primarily a painter), acting like a metronome for the exhibiton.
There is a real sculptural consideration gone into how the works are displayed, 3 Lorna Mills's works on interconnected TVs on the floor, Andreas Gysin projected from the ceiling onto the main floor and 5 Waffles artworks with their screen hardware exposed. The hardware is treated as an intrinsic part of the display, which gives the show a physicality that encourages you to consider the work as a material process, rather than just pixels to consume. Something that is often done lazily in digital art shows.
If you are in Berlin for art week or while the show runs (until Nov 20th) I would highly recco visiting. There is a real thoroughness of care in the curation. It's ambitious and really succeeds in opening up the conv it sets to have.
